Hi all,

How do you play unsuited medium rundowns in MP/LP, like 789TJ? Isolate? If first in, come in for a raise? Limp and call a raise? Open fold? Seems like a decent hand, but with no flush potential, not as strong as other variations.

I was dealt one the other night and limp/folded only to flop top two and a wrap!

Thanks,
DT

It is not possible to flop two pair and a wrap.

The flop was 3-7-8. I guess 7-8 plus the 9-T-J in my hand isn't quite a wrap? Then what is it?

Anyway, how do you play this kind of hand?

Obviously I'm just starting out at PLO.

JT987 with one suit is a monster on 5 card plo. I’d raise and call a 3 bet, and would consider 3-Betting myself.

Lol yeah five-card and I guess two cards were suited. My bad.

I dunno anything about 5 card PLo but in 4 card a lot of people way overvalue low or mid rundowns. These are good hands to play in HU situations because they increase your board coverage and allow you to bet aggressively across multiple streets with credible representation. In games where there are a lot of multiway pots I just fold em.

Would you just fold JT98ss in a 4 card game? That’s a premium hand IMO. I don’t play that much five card, but it’s really hard to get 5 cars hands where all your cards work together like this kind of rundown, being single suited is a bit less important because non-nutted flush draws go down in value, and we can get into good freeroll situations with two pair to go along with our straight.

JT98dss is definitely a premium hand JT98ss is also pretty good I would classify this as a high rundown though

I was more talking mid rundowns more like 5678-789T it depends on your definition i guess.

These hands are fine to take HU or multiway IMO. I would want a fairly high SPR going into the flop, so depending on the table dynamic I am limp/calling for pot control when I expect others to take aggressive lines because I have a hand where I will have a good awareness of my equity post flop; or raising or 3 betting pre flop to get more passive players to help build a pot with good implied odds.

Here I am talking about both 5 card and 4 card PLO.

If there is crazy multiway action am I willing to commit my stack pre flop? Probably not, even a beautiful hand like JT987 / JT98 is dominated by some of the hands that players will be ready to commit with against others that are probably on AAxxx/AAxx and similar.

I classify JT987/JT98 as a middle rundown. Rundowns 6/7 high or lower are basically trash IMO, so there are not that many playable rundowns below the J hi variation.
