Villain is a fish but I wouldn't say out of line post flop

It seems like a standard c-bet situation.
I think betting 1/2 pot is the ideal size.

On the other hand I don't wanna get raised since I have a lot of backup.

Are we mixing here between betting and checking?

I don't think there's much reason to check often at all; I think we want to HP a pretty wide value/protection range here (lots of overpairs). Villain shouldn't have many check-raises, and—while I'm less sure on this—I think we can call anyway. Depends a bit on villain.

I want to bet like 2.5bb-1/3rd pot so the check raise and maybe his turn bets are easier to call?

If the Villain is fish I would bet 1/3 of the pot and go from there. I would probably fold to check raise if he is playing reasonable on flop.

I think a mixed strategy here is correct. At larger cbet sizings we check back more often.

Its good to have some strong hands in checkback range, this hand has excellent redraw potential and good playability.

For a 1/2 cbet sizing, would like to checkback here at least 20% of the time.

I also agree that this hand is normally a little too strong to fold to a xr, unless villain is too tight.

Half pot bet seems best

i mix this up a lot depending on table dynamics. sometimes i want to check back and play basically a small pot IP where i know the turn gives me a lot of hands that could have good showdown value for such a pot. sometimes i want to cbet and try to just take it down there. it's really going to depend on what i've been doing. if the table is loose i might check back here bc i don't want to inflate a pot where i just have top pair and the villain has a potentially wide range.

Why would you wanna take the pot right there with hands such as this?
Wouldn't it be better to check back in that case?
Sure, if we check we may lose the hand some of the time, but I'm not sure I understand your reasoning for winning the hand on the flop.
If we didn't have any backup I see why we would like to win the hand right away.

I am betting most of the time and will continue on turn if I hit two pair or a draw. If you are raised on a board this dry I would consider folding as fish at these stakes don't really know how to bluff and will often turn up with sets. Its a disaster if you turn top 2 and he bombs it and you shove and get snapped so I would definitely bet a flop this dry, especially with your back up and probably fold to a flop raise as it makes the turn very hard to play.

Your equities are quite similar on this board. None of you should hit this board too hard.

In general top pair will play very mixed strategy here, probably close to 50/50 between betting and checking.

Your top pair however is one of the strongest. You have two BDFDs, BDSD and 3 over cards.

You have an easy cbet for 75% or whatever sizing you are using (50-80% should be ok).
You can call if he x raises and use your position OTT. If he is bluffing he will have to give up many turns anyhow. His prime bluffs are SDs. If straightening card comes OTT you have easy fold. If you improve to FD you have to decide based on the sizing.

Sidenote: top pairs you want to bet fold here as a bluff are hands with bad playability and ideally additional blockers. Hand like A877 blocking SDs.
