I honestly don't like playing 5 cards. I love the 4 cards game.

But sadly I play on PPPoker and where I play plo100~plo400 plays like plo5 on PokerStars. These games are good and run on 4 cards.
But above plo400 are only plo 5 card games, people play plo1k and plo2k with insane vpip like 65% or even 85% and with crazy action, but these games run on 5 cards.

I would like to play higher than plo400. What do you guys think of 5 cards?
I rarely see people talking about, and didn't see any professionals playing. There aren't many material to study.

I think playing even thighter would be optimal, right?

Across the many poker sites around the world there are 'micro-niche's' that are extremely profitable. If you see a ton of fun players on the 5 card tables you might have discovered one for yourself, but it could also be a dangerous investment.

my advice would be to cram some studying in on 5card, and give these games a try with a strict stop loss

even if you are a great PLO player, which it sounds like you are, it may be difficult to realize your edge in 5 card

I mean the variance in PLO can launch someone on a fifty buy in upswing or downswing, so i can only imagine how much more extreme 5card would be.

I saw a gs+overs be a flip vs flopped top2pair in 5c PLO so I'm pretty sure it's just witchcraft

I only have experience playing high-low with five cards, but, yeah, play tighter preflop.

Why do you dislike 5-card?

There aren't a lot of materials on 5card because it is way easier than 4card, and good 4card players can adjust pretty easily. High vpip players will get destroyed by proper hand selection and reasonable postflop strategy.

Playing above your bankroll can be a bad idea, even in a juicy game.

I play a bunch of 5 card plo high on ppp and live. Try to just think about it as a different game than 4 card plo. Against 4 high vpip players for an example, you really have to have a lot of outs to the nuts or the exclusive nuts on the flop (flopped nut str8 is kinda trash unless spr like 0). As for the top 2 being a flip someone else mentioned, top 2 is wayyyy ****tier in 5 card, like top 2 + open ended is usually going to be almost dead if u get it in vs 2 opponents, and bad shape vs 1. In 5 card, it is possible to have top set, nut wrap and nfd all in one hand, so in this context think about how bad top 2 is. If you're just checking it out, i would recommend being like vpip 13 and playing like a complete nit, which is still going to be profitable bc most 5 card action is insane, until you get a good feel for the game.

Yea I know 5card combinations get ******ed.. Have played some of it live. Flopped nut straight+2p+fd+redraw to higher straight and got it in. The other guy had same nut straight, higher fd, higher redraw-wrap (so my only actual redraw was 2pairs, and he had big wrap+fd redraw) of course unique set up but says something about the game when one can flop the nuts with all redraws and have like 40% equity HU

Yea aces pre are trash unless you can get almost all in pre. The nice thing is tho 5 cards in a row although more nutted than aces is way less common than aces, like you'll have aces all the time. So if you have players that are splashing around pre and you have AA just jam, 5 cards in a row are in the like 0.1% of hands, and 4 cards in a row is exponentially worse than 5 cards in a row. Play 5 cards in a row to T+, 4 cards in a row to Q+, AA, KK, suited A + 99+, suited A + 3 in a row, 4 big cards, from blinds and EP and then more from button. Also if you're playing live 8 max i would suggest from EP being like vpip 8 pfr 2. You just have to play soooo face up multiway. Button you can be like 25/25.

top two and bottom set are a lot more vulnerable in this game, especially in multiway pots. you can have much stronger combinations also, like two pair + wrap + fd. I think it is more of a flop game even than Omaha. A lot of the preflop decisions are not as instinctual if you have been playing four card PLO for a long time so it pays to think about them a little more. You don't want to try to take pots down with marginal made hands like TPTK you do in heads up or three handed four card plo situations. Blocker plays are even more powerful.

If you get a full house preflop you should fold it.

Nandez mastermind. I play 5-card live. I found it to be a quite soft even for a beginner (who was winning big at 2/5).
