After having a soul-crushing week and just reading that full tilt money is no more, I binked a NL tournament for approx. $2100. I have no idea how to play NL beyond clicking all-in in late position a lot. In the final hand I had like 5 % on the flop but runner-runnered a straight. Thank you lord

Strat in BBV thread:

1. I bet smaller there are some possible outcomes for that hand which are favorable and I would like to happen, but very unlikely to happen if I bet large(r) and "balancing my range", I bet if Phil Galfond was doing a leak finder on a video and it included that hand that he would get a little excited.

2. On the turn villain can obviously be raise/folding with semi-bluffs that if they complete on the river (after I call, obv) are planning on checking back as they may have made a 2nd best hand (e.g. JT74, 9765, etc) and getting their street of value on the turn. The river completes some of these semi-bluffing hands so there is no reason not to shove with 1PSB left. His calling range is going to be wider than his betting range and his betting range does not include any hands that would bet themselves if checked to but not call a shove. Betting smaller doesn't induce any further action and loses value. Villain just isn't firing a river barrel with air when I b/c turn so there is no point in checking.
