Short Stacking BRM

I feel stupid even asking this but here goes:

Do we count full buy ins when short stacking for the purposes of brm or do we count the actual buy in amount (i.e. 50 bb)?

So 50bbx 100 (I am a nit)?

IMO it came about because it's the standard max buy-in for both online and live.

I know I am a nit but for a non replenishable BR 40 buy ins would give me anxiety

Back when I played LHE professionally I went with 1000BB to be on the safe side...

If you're buying in for say 30bb bullets, consider each 30bb amount as 1 buy in.

Don't shortstack, just play lower stakes full. You'll never get better at poker if you try and avoid really playing it.

100 became a number thrown around for a few reasons:

1) PLO is lot more swingy than NLHE, so people idetermined that more buyins was better for PLO. More could have been 50 or 60, but people started tossing around 100 as the best way to reduce risk of ruin, which ties into point 2.

2) Further to point 1, if you intend to stick at any given limit for an extended period of time, the swings can be brutal, so you want a bankroll that allows you to endure 20, 30 or even 40 buyin downswings, but still continue to be at the limit you were originally rolled for. 100 gives you plenty of room to endure those swings.

3) People kept asking how many buyins you need to be comfortable as a professional poker player. Building on point 1 and 2, the number 100 was set as a hypothetical limit for what you should have to be comfortable playing professionally, with some other concessions as well (like 1 years worth of expenses saved).

What you set your bankroll at is entirely different for each individual. 40 is still a solid guideline to help avoid the downfalls of a couple bad hands or sessions ruining you and seeing that 0.00 figure in your online account.

I can see where you are coming from but I would argue that in a game as complex as PLO playing ss offers a much simpler decision tree and might indeed be good for learning the game initially. That is also reduces variance by allowing one to realize more equity is also nice.

I suppose you could do that but the thing about shortstack play is that the money goes in way more often than when you are at 100bb. The variance I would assume would be higher if you treat each like 1BI. Especially if you use an aggressive preflop strat.

As someone whose done lots and lots of 30bb-50bb shortstack play I can say if I counted one of those as a BI I would go on 10bi swing during a session on the reg. a 40BI roll isn't going to cut it for that.

4000bb is plenty.

right but if we're counting a full (short stack BI) as a real BI, 40BI isn't 4000BB. It's more like 1200-2000BB (30-50bb) which IMO isn't enough. Which is what I was trying to say, just not very well I guess.
