PLO5 BIG O Is it beatable over a large sample?

This may sound like a dumb question but over the past 8 months I have been putting the majority of my volume on Pppoker where they offer PLO5. In that time I can't recall speaking with anybody who could prove they they were beating plo5 over a large sample.

It seems as though this game is popular on the app mainly because it plays so big and there's tons of action. However, I have noticed some things that makes me wonder if the game can actually be beaten and how much variance can one expect. For example, when playing vs a reg heavy field there's virtually 0 bluffing frequency on the river with the exception of holding nut flush blocker. I imagine this is because somebody always has the 1st or 2nd nuts when it's 6 people to the flop. The other thing I was wondering is what is the optimal vpip for this game?

The hands run so close in equity and everyone has a whole board in their hand it makes you wonder just how important is a pf range? 5 cards that's over 1 million possible combos. Obviously position is important but with that many combos it seems like one could play everything except trip hands and rainbow hands and do ok considering so much of the field is limping pre.

Any answers would be appreciated.

Re: PLO5 BIG O Is it beatable over a large sample?

Depends on the rake and the game.

PLO5 as in $.02-$.05 blinds? Yeah it is probably beatable with a 5% rake. You just play for the nuts and dont pay off other peoples nuts. You dont get it in when you flop the nut straight without redraws etc...It is an even nittier version of plo. Of course it is beatable. People will not play nitty enough.

plo 5c is crushable, and this thread needs to be terminated immediately

There is always going to be profit in the more exotic variants which dont have a body of theory and software attached to them

I don’t know what PLO5 means but Big O live seems eminently beatable. Start with a range advantage, play exploitively, win money. Rinse & repeat. Disclaimer - I have very little big O experience.

Re: PLO5 BIG O Is it beatable over a large sample?

Hi,
I think it's beateable. I play on pppoker as well, a lot of fishy players there, especially in my union. I think its all about hand range selecting, and Table selecting. After 35k hands I made ~120 buins. I was very good nl texas holdem player, and I made transition to plo. U can join to our union and see action, I want to see other union as well

The reason you see a lot of material on PLO is that Omaha is fundamentally different from Holdem. But what you're calling Big O (5 card PLO) is not fundamentally different from PLO. Play it basically the same way, but on average the hands are going to be slightly stronger. But of course it's not true that someone always has the first or second nuts. Depending on what that is. If it's a Broadway straight or some sort of flush, then often yes. If it's a straight flush or quads then usually no. And yes, of course it's beatable.

Naw. Being a split pot game that 5th card really increases the chance of getting quartered or worse on the low.

However you have a chance if you're in a game were other players will fold their bare nut low out of fear of being quartered.

PLO5 attracts some crazy players. Would be very surprised if it wasn't beatable long term.

I thought Big O is 5c plo hi/lo.Anyway it seems you are referring to 5card plo,for me it is not beatable.I am constant winner in plo,but 5c variance is intolerable and it is basically different game than plo.

Re: PLO5 BIG O Is it beatable over a large sample?

BigO or 5 card PLO hi/lo is absolutely beatable at a stake where rake is a minute amount of the pot. Say $1k+ pots w $5 rake. I wouldn't even bother playing it with $5 pots where rake is what, 0.25?, or 5% of the pot? With the amount of split pots in that game, screw that.

I've played 5+card PLO a bunch as more of a gimmick in home games and basically the more cards you are dealt the tighter you have to play post flop
