Hi,

I'm new to plo and I'm wondering how should I play this common spot. So many bad cards can come. I know I'm suppose to check this board texture often but my hand seems very vulnerable. Should I check-raise flop or turn here? thanks for your advices!!

I think you should call the river, unless he bluffs 0% of the time. This is the strongest hand you'll have when you check the river generally speaking, so you can see how if you're folding everything here he has a great bluff opportunity.

    What, why?

Fold is good. You don't block straights.

Inky - I get that we aren't blocking straights but I still thought for sure this would be a call. The obv QT straight missed so it would have had to been a wrap or maybe KQ with clubs?
But both flush draws just missed and we have the 4th best possible hand (and Q8 and 87 seem pretty unlikely, though maybe that's where I'm wrong) isnt this a perfect bluff spot for villian?
I guess my question is, if we're folding this hand in this spot, don't we just get run over by getting bluffed off of everything?

Would you be more in favor of calling with something like QQ23 all red where our blockers and unblockers are real good but our actual hand isn't that strong?

    Not if you x/call enough.

You check/call enough by not betting way too thin for value and checking enough stronger calls, then calling hands with better blockers. Two pair with straight blockers for instance would often be better calls than a set with no straight blockers.

    QQ23
I mean, you can't have QQ23 here without also blocking flush draws, so no, but yes, blockers are more important than absolute strength of your hand as long as your opponent won't bluff with worse.

Your opponent would definitely turn some KK or maybe even two pairs into bluffs here, so QQ is not strong enough to call.
