PLO200 6-Max

$200 Effective Stacks

Full Table, Folds around to Villain(SB) raises 6, Hero(BB) calls.

Hero: AJQ7

Pot (12) Flop: J62

Villain(SB) bets 8. Hero(BB) calls.

Should Hero always raise turn here?

Flop calls seems okay.
Whether or not to raise turn, I have a lot to protect and get value from, mainly hearts that barrel the Ace turn and some big Ace high hands.
Villain is a regular.
OTOH, I kind of like having this hand being in my river range, but maybe not this combo.
Since I have the Qh, that cuts down on his A+Broadway:hh combos
If we raise the turn he probably folds a lot of his lower hearts.
He may barrel the river with that part of his range or not.

I think the turn raise would be good from a perspective of equity denial for many of his draws and makes it, so you don't have to play a river where your decision might be difficult on heart rivers.

You shouldn't raise all your AJ. With a fairly big heart, straight blocker, and over card, I kind of like this as a flat.

I flat called turn. River brought a small heart, villain checked and I checked behind. Villain had 4577hh and won with a flush.

I think it’s key to understand how Villian will respond to a turn raise, specifically would he ever 4B bluff trying to rep the AA only he can have? If so then it’s a clear flat. If he is never going to bluff which happens with pretty much everyone, and may just flat with his smaller sets denying you zero of your suckout equity, then it’s a clear raise. You are just putting in what you would call the river with and he will dump small hearts etc and you gain + ev. I would not barrell hearts if he calls your turn raise.

Hero should raise turn most of the time here, there is just too much value not to..

And we dont like more than half the rivers, so there is not a huge benefit in delaying.

I want you to take this idea, pick it up with both hands, walk over to the nearest trash can, put it in the trash can, and close the lid.

These are the exact reasons turn should be raised here.

Can you explain your reasoning?

Sure. Essentially, when you raise here, you either (a) force out hands that have a lot of equity versus you, or (b) are most often getting called by combo draws (straight and flush draws, likely also holding top pair).

Scenario (a) is awesome, no explanation needed.
Scenario (b) is good because you block villain's straight and flush outs, so you want to pile in money here when they are more disadvantaged than when you just have AJ. Additionally, you have outs to improve when SB also has AJ. Finally, since you are in position, there are a large number of river cards you can still bluff at, esp holding the Qh.
