post here to meet other players who wanna start or join a skype group.

from my experience (i've been part of like 10 study groups and left all of them) they very easily turn into low content discussions or people start berating each other for various reasons. so somehow this should be controlled.

be also very cautious of cheaters or scammers, so proceed with caution with sweating, transactions etc...it's no point coming here crying afterwards if someone gets you, you are solely responsible.

looking for skype group, playing 20PLO atm and want/need to improve so am ready to put in some serious time into this, pissing my money away at ipoker atm. shoot me a pm for skype.

ggarj, could you sticky this one too in some way? only found cuz i knew it was around, having it stickied would prevent new threads from newbies asking for it.

I'm looking for a skype group as well for players playing 25 or 50 PLO (especially if you want to work on strategies for deep stack or HU PLO).

ozzington & kralok, where do you live (time zone) ?

can kinda confirm what napsus said, i've been in one of those 10 study groups and it just didn't go well. there was too little structure and too many people in this group.
therefore i'd suggest to build up some sort of network rather than one large group. divide the network into small groups interested in specific game formats / stakes / woteva (that was another problem with my last study group: most people rather pointed out that they're playing higher instead of actually discussing any of the questions asked.)

gonna shoot you a pm regarding skype.

Just starting out with PLO.

I'm looking to form a small group(~3 players) of players who wants to study together the same material I plan to study, want to learn together how to use Odds Oracle and Excel to analyze hands, and discuss hands(in an analytic approach).
I'm looking for people who want to study the game by doing a lot of work outside of the tables. I'm not looking for people who just want to grind and discuss hands "casually" via Skype.

I believe in efficiency and I don't think a study group should take too much of the player's time, therefore the format I plan is:
#. Open a dedicated forum for the group.
1. Have a sub-forum for the current learning material we study. In this sub-forum have topic for each chapter/episode, where we discuss it and exchange notes.
2. Have sub-forum for hand history discussion. Each member should be posting ONLY 1 hand per day, and everyone is obligated to participate in all of the discussions. The nature of the discussion is analytic using Odds Oracle and Excel. Such analysis takes time, which is the reason for only one hand per player per day.
3. To add to #2, we will have a "quick hand review" thread to post hands for "casual" review. Unlike #2, this is a place to get a quick "i think you are right"/"I think you are wrong" responds.
4. When the conditions will be right, we will hire a coach for weekly group coaching. You should be willing to pay 30$-50$ each week for a coaching.

The material I plan to study is(at the initial phase at least) :
-Strategy: Hwang's first book, "2x6" series(at DC), Hwang's second book, "PLO from scratch"(at Donkr), "MONOPLOLY" series(at DC), "Return of the G: Episode One"(at DC).
-Poker math: "Poker Math That Matters" by Owen Gaines, "PLO BY NUMBERS" (at DC).
-Odds Oracle: Site tutorials, other articles, "Applied PLO Math" (at DC).
(*I think this should give a solid foundations. If you think we should learn different material, it is open for discussion of course.)

I don't care about the limit you play - as long as you are hard worker and dedicated, want to study the same material and can have at least 4-5 hours of poker each day(split between play, study, and review. Both as a group and alone). Of course you should be willing to buy relevant material and softwares, and be willing to pay weekly for a coach.
PM me if you are interested...

magx, really appreciate the idea of opening a little forum for the group. also, we're looking for exactly the kind of motivated participants like you seem to be.

i see a couple problems tho, mainly concerning the material you plan to study:
- hwang's first book provides some good basics concerning the understanding of "draw physics", but otherwise it's just outdated, too nitty, not worth spending too much time with.
- a more general problem i see is that different people have different learning curves, and this usually hinders the group when trying to go thro literature & videos together. also, we probably miss out on good participants simply because they'd be willing to pick apart & analyze spots/lines/woteva to death but don't see a need in discussing some of the basic articles you mentioned.

i'd rather recommend trying to base group work on topics / scenarios instead, as it will speed up things a little and people can still read books / watch videos if they need to.

everything else looks promising and motivated, so count on me for everything but discussing some of the literature you mentioned. as you're looking for a really small group, you might find enough players who want to do this with you, so good luck

I am actually trying to form a really small group of very motivated players which are at a "beginner stage"(or want to start by reviewing the basics). This is why I posted what material I plan to study, to find players with similar interests.

I see no point in a group of more than 3-4 players. It just takes too much time if you are dedicated to the group, while also hard to manage(and tend to fall apart pretty fast). If you want mass opinion, just open a thread on the forum :-)

All the material was chosen for a reason(I can rationalize what and why). I heard about Hwang's books criticism, and take it into consideration.
My plan is not to dwell on them, but to take the foundations from it(proper understanding and approaching to PLO, pre-flop starting hands categorization, and post-flop basics - mainly using SPR). How much time can it take with proper note taking? 1 week? I think it should be well worth it(again, this is in the eyes of a total newcomer to the game).

Anyway, GL to you too. Maybe our roads will cross at a later stage(or if we both won't find what we are looking for - maybe we will form a group which focus on things we could agree on).

Magx you still looking for people? I am at the moment doing exactly this and spending the following month away from the tables to really get my mind around the analytical approach and the maths behind working out most +ev lines. I am also currently reading poker math that matters.

Let me know if there is still a slot

I just started playing PLO (playing plo20, 25, 30) and am looking for a skype group.
I am going to take this game very seriously, improve a lot and hopefully move up soon (no cashouts)
Unfortunately I study and can only put in like 2 hours daily, maybe more on some days.

Full Tilt offered me a bonus, so I started playing a bit more frequently in the last days (Rush 25). Results:

I'd be interested in joining your group if you still have a slot.

I'm a rec player playing 25plo zoom atm. I have the Hwang book, and a full Odds Oracle, and I know my way around Excel also.

I couldn't find anyone who fit right in into my course of action and I begin to think that limiting the group members to study the exact material isn't the best idea.

So, I think i'm going to try extend the group to 4-5 players, and look for motivated players who have analytic approach - i.e. know their way around poker numbers and use Odds Oracle on regular basis.
(Of course exchanging notes and discussing specific material will still be part of the group - but it wont be mandatory.)

Beside the mandatory learning material which is now not relevant, most of what I wrote in the original message is still relevant.

Anyone who fit the requirements and want in - sent me a PM.

I'm a fairly experienced PLO player (does not mean good tho :P) who's been playing upto PLO25 with decent results. Sadly I've recently have to start over at plo2 to try and build a roll back again.

I'd be happy to connect with players who play microstakes omaha for strategy chats and more. My skype is jokahdkslagelse and its all over the internet anyway, so i dont mind it in public.
