If you're having 4-6 people seeing flops, regardless of the PF raising situation, I would think that putting in your own raises to bloat pots PF would lead to higher variance, since you're rarely isolating players.
I would tend to stick to a more passive approach PF and then profit after the flop, based on your ability to read hands and situations better than other players, as well as your tighter hand selection.
Loosening up your own requirements to try and see more pots in this type of game, would seem to results in higher variance.
Player looser when your opponents are tighter and tighter when your opponents are looser.
Connected hands, nut suits, double suited hands, with a nut or 2nd nut suit would all seem to lead to more profit. You seem to already know which hands play better when 4-6 people are seeing flops. Avoid the urge to see more pots, just because money moves around, and you'll likely profit.
