Should I bet pot more often?
First of all, u should differentiate between players vs whom u need to balance and thosem u size based on hand strength.

Vs decent regs with half a brain, u size based on board texture, and also based on the number of opponents. 66% on lockdown boards seems excessive, around half pot is just fine. Betting 75% on A72r is also excessive, villain either has top pair+ to call u, or he folds, half pot again.

In general, the turn brings more draws and complicates things, so u should bet more than OTF.

An easy way to calculate the PSB/PS Raise is
a)if some one bets, multiply that amount by 3 then add the amount in the pot.

Example if the pot has $40 and someone bets $15, then a PS raise is 3 x 15 + 40 =$85.

If there is no bet before you act the potbet is just how much money is in the pot. In this case $40.

For lack of a better way to phrase this question:

Where can I get started learning PLO?

I'm fairly familiar with NL and have some basic ideas on how to play PLO, but find myself making too many major mistakes and in too many situations where I have no idea what to do. I also have a hard time evaluating hand strength once I get past obviously strong or obviously worthless hands.

Skim through this thread, plenty of links, answers and suggestions already posted. Also check out the "Guide to SSPLO" thread, plenty of links there too

How relevant is the PLO from scratch article series by bugs on donkr? Is that a good starting point or is most of the information out of date/not a good series of articles/etc.

Thanks

The link can be found in my user profile - not allowed to post it here directly - but I've only just gotten the go-ahead to start writing in English too. The next entry will be in both English and Finnish, the English version will be a pdf-file.

Thanks man. Good news to hear that it'll be written in English. Being the ignorant Englishman that I am I assumed it was in English already.

Tbh, I'd almost prefer writing in English about poker, most of the Finnish terms are crude derivations from English and I always get the urge to explain them to the readers, lol

Anyways, sent the latest entry to my editor some 12hrs ago in both languages, shouldn't take too long for them to be uploaded. I'll add the link to the English version in my profile as soon as I get it.

Ima go a bit baller and play a $60 HO (PLHE/PLO) freezeout. Has anyone of you got any experience of playing HO MTTs? What's the basic strategy and how does it differ from a mechanical mix of pure NLHE and PLO MTT strategies? E.g. do I take it right that, with a short stack, I should tighen up in PLO phases and wait for PLHE phases where I can resteal preflop with bigger fold equities? Or do you suggest not to play this game at all? What is the player field like, are there many players who excel at one game type but fail at another?

To me, it was eye-opening: apart from other well-known solid strategy, the lesson I learned from it is that we should bet/fold a lot at PLO. The series focuses on in-depth mathematical analysis using propokertools.com. The latest parts - 13 and 14 - haven't been translated into English and thus aren't included in the book, read them (PLO Fra Grunner) in the Norwegian Omaha strategy Donkr forum with an online translator. Part 14c was written only two months ago so the series hasn't lost its actuality.

You don't get it. I think writing in a rare native language is +EV because there's a lot less competition for staff blogger positions, and you can write lower content. The same applies to poker affiliation (to staking to a smaller extent - it relies on friendship). E.g. a big chunk of Russian players don't understand English to an extent that could allow them to deal with poker rooms without assistance , thus 'kind' affiliates who explain them things in Russian get their rake and make profit despite their smaller size. I've been already asked why I'm not in the business - speaking Russian is a huge asset in the poker world (add here the opportunity to live in Belarus where your life expenses are covered even if you're a small winner at PLO25 ).

OT edit @GGaRJ: I've just read your latest blog entry, and it goes without saying that a pro player should have two independent internet connections (that said, I still have one ); it's less relevant for cash players, but still it's not desirable to leave a fishy HS table with a long waiting list because of a disconnect.

That's basically my source of (forgotten ) knowledge on bet/folding ranges, alas I'm not into it yet. Edit: balanced cbet/fold and checkback ranges are in part 13c; for some unknown reason that Norwegian forum is (temporarily, I hope) down and redirects to the English forum; use Google cache.

Just wondering if anyone employs check min raises oop and min raises IP both for value and as a bluff on dry and lock down boards?

Gonna experiment with min raises and clicking back and was wondering if anyone else does it and if they had any advice. Stuff like "don't do it you muppett" etc etc. Obviously more detailed responses are also welcome

Nice one thanks.

I hope you don't mind if I ask a couple of questions.

1) Is it possible to have a positive red line at micro/small stakes?

2) What spots are we looking for when we're trying to make V fold?

3) What stakes can we start looking for those spots?

4) In hand 2 when you check behind AA with a pair on board (K). How would you play if the turn was the 5 of clubs instead and Villain either:

1) Checks
2) Leads

5) If you had zero BD equity would this be a bet on the flop?

Thanks,

Bom

1) Yes, but going for it will likely lead to a negative green line. As I've stated before in this thread, thin v-bets are much more important than bluffs at the micros.

2) When their range is weak - and when they're likely to recognize that, lol

3) You can start looking for those spots at any stakes, but ur less likely to find bluffable villains at the micros. Pick and choose ur leveling partners carefully.

4) I'd be inclined to check back or call a lead, as villain knows I'm unlikely to have a strong flush. The villain in question used to play high stakes not too long ago.

5) His range is wide enough that I'd def try and pick up the pot with naked AA, he can't ever c/r light here.

Played only fhew live and fhew at online, but basic strategy to online tourneys (was it online, didn't read the whole OP :P) is quite simple:

Before proved otherwise, everyone is a fish at plo!

Play ABC NLHE whole time and at early stages you play omaha like you would play in almost every other omaha tourney, loose and passive pre and aggro post. So basicly set mining, taking flops with suited A's etc. I wouldn't start open limping even at plo tourneys, but overlimping is more than fine and raising premiums ofc.

When stacks got more shallow, just keep playing ABC NLHE and start to gamble a bit more in omaha. You would be surprised how people will fold to your 3bets in omaha tourneys.. So 3betting a bit wider, if opener is not a super nit, but still keeping in mind, that most of the people don't know how to fold overpairs.

When stacks get under 20bb you play just like in every tourney..

What do you mean by this? Is it because flop hit's your range hard and he knows that he has little FE and will likely be playing for stacks if he does?
