Re: ***Official SSPLO Beginners Thread - New to PLO? Try this for quick questions/tips/chat***

Hello!

I am learning PLO now that I have access to legal online poker (PA). I had to share this hand although it isn't really worth a post imo

    PokerStars - $0.10 PL Hi (6 max) - Omaha Hi - 6 players
Hand converted by Holdem Manager 3

    BB: $14.43 (144.3 bb)
    UTG: $22.32 (223.2 bb)
    MP: $9.42 (94.2 bb)
    CO: $8.74 (87.4 bb)
    Hero (BTN): $4.26 (42.6 bb)
    SB: $13.48 (134.8 bb)

SB posts $0.05, BB posts $0.10

    Pre Flop: (pot: $0.15) Hero has T A J 9
UTG calls $0.10, MP calls $0.10, fold, Hero raises to $0.55, fold, BB calls $0.45, UTG calls $0.45, MP calls $0.45

    Flop: ($2.25, 4 players) Q K 5
BB checks, UTG checks, MP bets $0.20, Hero raises to $2.74, 2 folds, MP calls $2.54

I raised hoping to force out diamond draws and improve my outs, also these games are so passive I'll be able to take a free card on the turn if I wish. Realistically people don't fold enough and this is spew imo

    Turn: ($7.73, 2 players) Q
MP bets $0.90, Hero raises to $0.97 and is all-in, fold

uh? I guess the games are good.

    Results: $9.53 pot ($0.48 rake)
    Final Board: Q K 5 Q

    Hero wins $9.05

I am thinking about moving to PLO after a somewhat long poker break (4 years).

However, it feels very weird to play at PLO2 with several thousand BIs in my BR (I used to play NL100).

Any advice about what stake I should start from? I don't mind losing some to learn some.

      PokerStars - $0.02 PL Hi FAST (6 max) - Omaha Hi - 6 players
      Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

      Hero (BTN): 539.5 BB
      SB: 130 BB
      BB: 181 BB
      UTG: 148 BB
      MP: 100.5 BB
      CO: 1598.5 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

      Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has T T 7 8

fold, MP raises to 3.5 BB, fold, Hero calls 3.5 BB, fold, fold

      Flop: (8.5 BB, 2 players) 3 9 4
      MP bets 3 BB, fold

      MP wins 8 BB

      Hi,

I think my call is pretty good. Flop game though, i didnt have a clue that im doing.
i think mp range is really not hitting the board very strongly. Might have over pair most of the time? Im scared of flush ofc but i think its rare at headsup situations.

What do you think, would call it and continue to turn? I think if mp would have check the turn id attacked 75% pot?

I would recommend PLO 10 for the transition. Sometimes you can go down 20BI by doing everything right. From experience stars 25 vs 10 pool is also a big skill difference.

6-max PLO10. Hero has $5.00 and Villain has Hero covered.

Hero opens HJ with A9A7. Villain defends BB.

      Flop ($0.75): 753

Hero bets $75. BB check/raises to $3.00. Total pot size becomes $4.50. $2.25 for Hero to call.

Should Hero call or fold here?

cbetting for pot here is not a great move i think. your opening range from an early position shouldnt have too many low cards and the board being quite connected, low and rainbow doesnt favor such a range. bb on the other hand is quite wide. no range here should have a big equity advantage i believe. not sure why you chose to bet for pot then. you do have a pair and some rundown blockers and a bdnfd but i think betting half pot and calling vs a raise is the way to go. you also could check behind.

edit: just saw you were short stacking. then maybe you need to adjust and bet 1/3 instead. not sure about shortstacking postflop strat though

Thanks! I see the sizing problem now.

It is a little bit confusing when you say "bb on the other hand is quite wide. no range here should have a big equity advantage i believe"? (BTW, I open about 18% at HJ.)

I was trying to say that on this particular board hands you would open from HJ wont be a huge favorite over hands you would defend from bb and vice versa. BB will defend a wide range of hands so he will often connect with such a low board too while HJ will have lots of high cards and overpairs which BB would have decent equity against. On a board like K72r HJ will usually have an equity advantage for example

I would check the flop. Villain has a massive range advantage here.

In general you don't want to pile money in with a wrap when the board has a flush draw.

        6-Max PLO10.

UTG has $9.20 and Hero $10.95.

UTG raises to $0.35 and it is folded to Hero at Button with KJK6. Is calling better here than 3-betting?

Would you 3-bet instead if having KJKQ?

Not three betting either combo, although it depends on how wide utg is opening. I'd actually rather three bet the former, because with the second you block more of his non aces combos.
