$1/2 5-card. Hero should have very tight nut-peddling image, has played fewest hands at table by far, has shown the goods (AA at least) generally but is running bad. Playing $260.

Hero limps EP with AsAxXXX and several other players limp, including loose old white dude and middle aged headphones-wearing black dude who recently showed up.

Flop: Js-3s-8s. Old guy bets $15 from BB, I pot to $55, black guy calls, old guy folds. Pot $155.

Turn: 2d. I pot. V tank calls.

River: Qs. I have only $50 or so behind.

Thanks,
DT

Rethink your betsizings so you don't have just $50 on the river. Smaller flop+turn bets (especially the flop raise) will allow soo much more total fold equity

I think loctus makes a good point, if you set yourself up for an SPR of 1 on the river you can generate a ton of FE when you rip it in.

in 5 card i believe there is a much greater need for protection, which is why i think raising the flop could make sense but you are also 3 handed and i imagine your opponents are not the 'folding type' lol. you did manage to isolate mr. headphones though.

against loose, live players in a 5 card game i feel like bluffing the NF blocker is not going to work often enough, but only you really know ur opponents and if you took this line then you probably thought they were capable of folding

i am interested to hear how the hand ended, did your opponent have aflush?

Choose one of these approaches based on the strength of opposition (from strongest to weakest):

a) (Near)-potting flop is correct. Someone is leading into a bunch of players on a monotone board when you have the NF blocker, so they have JJ or flush+set a lot, and you only have NF/NFD with no thinner value raises, so your sizing scheme should be frontloaded for protection or charging calls. On the turn you'd go smaller, though -- closer to geometric growth of pot but still frontloaded.

b) V has a JJ or a flush+set and wants to boat up or hope you shut down, so pick a sizing scheme tailored to getting that to fold, no matter how dumb it looks (so yes, small turn + pot river can work).

c) Everyone is a fish. Give up immediately on turn, possibly don't raise flop (but you are giving up afterwards anyway so pot it if you do).

Thanks all. Unfortunately V was more of the call-happy type and called with just a set of jacks.... I checked behind on river figuring nothing was folding for $50.
