I have a question for any HUPLO players.

When I am playing heads up PLO I keep finding myself in a kind of an unusual situation where I dont know what to do, or what proper etiquette dictates:

When I am winning (up 1-2 buy ins) I always want to keep playing, but oftentimes my opponent will start hitting the pot button almost every single hand from pre-flop to river, loosing lots of money and also winning it back. These are generally recreational players. When this happens they seem to abandon any concern for strategy or hand values and they just want to flip over and over.

Obviously this is easy to exploit, but in PLO the flop/turn situations are often so ambiguous that I am not willing to continue even if I am a sure favorite, and sometimes I do commit and end up losing all the money in tragic flip scenarios.

Does anyone have experience with this tendency? and if so how should it be handled? Should hero leave? Stay and attempt to exploit this tendency?

I have never been a hit and run player, I believe in being a HUPLO player that stays and battles.

I don't think anyone has any grounds to be upset at a player that "hits and runs". My goal is to take your money, as is your goal to take mine. If you win my money, what right do I have to demand that you give me the opportunity to win it back? Basically none, this is gambling.

Do whatever you feel is the right thing, no one else can make that decision.

This doesn't really feel like an etiquette question, so much as your inability to adjust to a different game dynamic, which in turn is dropping your winrate. Not to say that I would do any better, but perhaps take this as an opportunity to work on your strategy against this type of player, instead of worrying about etiquette. Your game will be better for it.

Disclaimer: I only play micros, but I do play tons of headsup.
I recognize this pattern from opponents.
Maybe you can look at it like this: When in a 55/45 or similar scenario, it's not only your immediate gain to consider, but also future gains. A recreational player on tilt will do big and costly mistakes (such as trying to pot you off the nuts, etc), but will probably leave the table as soon as he/she gets his money back. I think, it's fine to fold high equity hands in that case, because you'll probably stack him a few hands later.

What Dingus said is also important. If you want to beat better players HU, you'll sooner or later have to figure out how to handle this type of playing style.

Etiquette:
I have no idea. The only thing, I really hate is: Regulars sitting down at my tables, after I initated all the action, and then sitting out as soon as the weaker players leave.

If it was actually an etiquette question: **** 'em, it's 2018. Leave when you want.
But since it sounds like it's not... Admit you want to h'n'r and just leave.

Its bad etiquette, its bad for the game, bad for your bankroll, and just a horrible mindset for a PLO player especially if you play HU PLO.

You're sacrificing massive amounts of EV because of what's basically just fear of variance. Also, this fish will remember you, the next time you play against him and he's up a buyin he'll leave out of spite and you lose another set of EV.

People complain about "etiquette", because the word makes them think of teacups and political correctness, but its clear to anyone who seriously plays for money that friendly poker is just better for the game.

Why on earth would you want to leave when villain starts playing bad?

thnx for the feedback. yes i should to clarify that this is not only an etiquette question, it is also about strategy. i go out of my way to avoid doing hit and runs, as a courtesy and more practically because i dont want to alienate the small uHUPLO player-pool on this site. there are only a handful of these people that I player regularly and they are definitely good people that talk with in chat.

it sounds like most of you would take advantage of this kind of spot. there is definitely huge potential to exploit this tendency, but i never feel very comfortable in these nonstop flipping scenarios. I think more experienced huplo players would find these spots easier to navigate

me calling these players recreational is probably not accurate. that term doesn't really do a justice in todays online ecosystem. they belong in the category that is something like 'serious recreational players aspiring/working to be great.' i believe many of todays players belong in this category, including myself. PLO/HUPLO seems to attract a slightly more serious type of player i think

these opponents play a lot and they understand the format well enough be dangerous when the game goes this direction. when I review hands with these accounts it is clear that they understand how to bluff effectively, where to tke advantage of blockers, position, their opponent etc. they play well when a session starts, but after a while if they are down money they will lose it and try to double through me repeatedly

Many players have difficulty adjusting to stack sizes. It seems like this might be the problem. This is why short stacking is so profitable.
