How to play big overpairs in srps How to play big overpairs in srps

Hi guys,

New plo player here transitioning from NLHE.

Are there any general rules of thumb for playing big overpairs in single raised pots? Maybe divided by board texture? I find I am often clueless as to how to proceed.

Any input much appreciated.

This is one of the hardest questions in PLO. A few thoughts:

1. C-betting when the pot is multiway and all you have is an overpair is pretty suicidal. Save c-betting with a bare overpair for head's up pots.
2. Board texture is key. on paired flops, I'll often check and try to get to showdown, especially with AA because it's more of a way-ahead/way behind situation.
3. Your other two cards are also key of course. If you have draws to go along with your equity it makes betting better.
4. As a form of balance, I'm more likely to c-bet if one of my other cards matches the board. For instance, if I have AAQ9, I'm more likely to bet on Q75 than J75, solely due to the blocker.
5. Absent a strong read, I pretty much never bluff-catch river with just a one-pair hand, including an overpair. I play accordingly, and try not to bluff-catch turn much with a hand that's likely to just be a one-pair hand on the river.

Many thanks MIB. I assume this question gets asked a lot, so thankful for your input.
