Hi everybody,

I am thinking about getting back into PLO and would like to know the best strategy/content sources to transition from NLH? I played some 80k hands PLO in the past before solvers were a thing. So I am not a complete noob. But I would like to have a pretty clear learning path/structured course to get started without having to weigh/ judge a lot of different content/approaches from tons of coaches all over the internet.

So afaik there are 3 main options:

1. Upswing Lab (299$ one time)
2. Jnandez new site/course (99$ monthly)
3. RIO essential membership (25$ monthly) focusing on their PLO learning path

I guess 1 and 2 should be quite similar since it is the same coach. Question is if I get more or better content out of Jnandez current program than from upswing? RIO is not as comprehensive or structured as the other two but a lot cheaper overall...

What do you think has the best value 4 money and up to date to beat today’s games? Are there other options?

What would you do if you started playing PLO all over again today?

And thanks in advance for your Input

Impossible to give you a good answer without knowing your goals.

Are you playing tournaments?
Are you playing 6max online?
Are you playing full ring online?
Are you playing low stakes live?
Are you playing mid-high stakes live?
Are you playing mostly heads up?
Etc,etc,etc

Oh sorry. I thought that should be quite obvious by the selected courses I mentioned above. I am talking about PLO 6max online cash games, like the PLO Standard that is taught in those courses... I would start playing Micros like 10PLO and would aim for small to midstakes long term. I work full time and play recreationally which is also why I would prefer a comprehensive course/learning path/ step by step guide rather than consuming random vids from various coaches and lots of different sources.

I started playing online in 2006, played a lot of Sngs and MTT in the beginning and later switched to NL Cashgames. During my best days I played NL200, PLO50, Sngs up to 55 etc.
After a break I recently started again playing lowstakes NL.

Yeah, it is the same coach. But the Upswing Lab is discontinued because they parted ways and Jnandez has its own course now. Difference is that his content is a quite expensive 99$/month membership, which is a pretty steep price for a lowstakes player. Advantage is that it is updated regularly. But do I get more value in 3 months of Jnandez than in a lifetime plo lab from Upswing? Or is the Upswing course a better bang for the buck?

Main issue I have with RIO is that a lot of the PLO content is pre-solver era and it will be diffcult to choose what to watch...

your right, besides C Mikesell and Gryko, RIO doesnt have much 'post monker' content to offer, but they are still the best in the industry for NL IMO. you might consider checking out this discord channel: https://discordapp.com/invite/ytrquq9. These guys are very competent monker users, and they have some serious PLO accolades (the matrix, helping found mastermind). i just learned them this last week

ive tried all the major providers, they all have something to offer. i still keep my RIO sub

i am quite disappointed by some of the things Jnandez has done in business, but when it comes to coaching my sole-concern is that i want to consume the best info possible, and right now mastermind has the best content. if you can stomach the 100$/month then sub

Most of the better PLO content in regards to maximizing your profit is from the "pre-solver" era, especially if you are playing low or micro stakes.

to be fair, to beat micros you do not need to solve.

you just have to make annoying folds when your set gets busted and bet with the nut flush or straight unless the board pairs.

Sure, I won’t solve myself anyway because I can’t afford monker atm. What content would you recommend? I just though it would make sense to learn the game with up to date content like solver based ranges pre etc

Hi.

Similar situation here. For good foundations I’m reading donkr’s PLO from scratch (it’s pretty old but I believe it provides very good foundation to beat micros). I might go for the RIO subscription later - I’ve read they have pretty good content on postflop play and general NLHE to PLO transition.

One question - which site do you plan to play on? I can’t really decide whether to go for PS/PP or start micros at MPN due to their very low rake. Wanted to consider newly launched RIOP as well but Omaha’s lowest limit doesn’t run yet and don’t wanna go any higher than that before I get my training wheels

Gl with PLO and maybe see you at some tables soon

I will most likely go with PLO Mastermind for a month of full throttle theory work to get the basics right. Maybe two months. And then focus on solver work as soon as I can afford the tools like PLO Visions, Monker etc.

I guess I‘ll play mostly on RIO in the beginning. Stars or Party are not really in the mix for me. Unibet is another good option for Micros. MPN is fine too rakewise but they really ****ed up the software with their new client and I don’t think I‘ll play there anytime soon.

Kropotking,

Did you ever follow through with the Mastermind? Would you mind giving a review?

jnandez all the way!!!!!!
I started destroying plo200 on pokerbros shortly after getting my monthly membership(it's been about 45 days total). I really like the play&explains, it doesn't even feel like study time to me it's more entertainment. Which is great bc it gives me a lot more motivation to actually study. My results have drastically improved I was pretty much break-even at best before getting the membership and now I'm well over 5bb/100
