Any merit it trying to skip a level?? Any merit it trying to skip a level??

Anyone ever consider skipping a level because they just seem to run horrible every time they try to move up? Or actually successfully do it?

With the exception of one attempt where some suckouts turned into me torching a number buyins out of rage I continue to run under EV each time I try and solidify myself at the next limit. I think I'm on attempt 8.

Granted EV is not the end game indicator of whether or not I'm playing well, I've pretty much had correct reads on my opponents when I get the money in, yet continue to lose pots where I'm 70%+ on the flop. Perception might be a bit off, but it certainly seems like I'm playing decent enough to be up there.

I have no issues getting the buyins back at the current limit I'm at, just can't seem to run good enough to be able to handle the ups and downs, without dropping below what I consider an adequate roll to move up. After cashing out most of my roll years ago to pay off school loans, I spent a number of years of being stupid and burning bankrolls by being under rolled, I'm trying to employ a longer term BR plan and am not looking to take chances to jump levels.

Just talking about skipping 50s and going to the 100s, properly rolled of course. I haven't played there in a few years, but when I did, I didn't notice a large difference in the ability of the players. At this point I feel like I'm going to build a bankroll quicker staying at the 25s, since I seem to run better there.

Curious if anyone has done this, as well as some comments on the caliber of the players at the 100s and if I'd be handicapping myself by not putting in more volume at the 50s. I do have more than my share of history there from the past, just not 2018.

Yep move up asap as long as your skill level matches the stake. Don't move up because you're cursed at plo50 and you're "better than these donks if only you could just run good onetime".

I do get stuck in the mindset of moving up based on bankroll, not skill level. Certainly feel like I'm playing well enough to be at the 50s and beyond, so I guess if I can get a roll I feel is adequate enough to play the 100s, then I should have no issue. Just have to be realistic with any shots, and not burn through buyins with the mentality that I'm "just getting unlucky", when actually I'm not ready skill wise.

Thanks!

Even if the exact same group of people play at the 100s, everyone can still run good and you can run bad ... just for 4x the money instead of only 2x. And it's much more likely that only 80% of the people are the same with the bottom 20% being replaced with better players.

Also as someone who only plays for fun, and moves up and down 3 levels due to games running ... it's much easier to not care about the money when every pot is worth 1/4th of the pot you played yesterday (significantly more than when it's 2x IMO).

It depends on risk tolerance as far as the money goes. Getting practise, one can pick a couple of tougher tables w/o moving up, "zoom" or a site but steps up on a more fishy site after seeing what nonsense the limits one was thinking about playing there are.
