effective stacks 80bb

Villain opens from btn to 3.5bb, hero 3bet from sb with KK86 to 11.5bb, villain calls.

Flop (24bb): J55
hero bets 8bb, villain calls.

Turn (40bb): J559
hero bets 13bb, villain calls.

River (66bb): J5597
hero checks, villain bets 40bb, hero calls.

should hero have checked flop or turn and fold river?

Flop is close and player dependent, I would lean towards c/c. If we are betting the flop, turn is clear c/c. Can't fold the river especially not blocking spades. These spots are tough so don't beat yourself up if you feel lost.

I like flop lead of 1/3 pot. Charges flush draws and garbage hands that can pick up equity on the turn. Check is also fine here, would consider even a check-raise-fold.

Turn I don't mind 1/3 blocker bet that also charges draws.

River I'm not folding. Check call is fine.

x55 is particularly bad for us as he hits trips way more. Bigger does equity denial better at SPR 3.

do you mean we should check flop, or we should bet bigger?

When we do choose bet with overpairs, we should think about our lack of playability and bet bigger. 2/3 sets up a pot size behind at SPR 3.

When we see this flop we should think about betting fewer overpairs than say J22ss or even J88ss. I'd check this time but don't know where the lines are drawn.
