Hey, I read in Hwangs intro book that hands such as 789K are bad compared to hands that have their rundowns where the highest rundown card is the high card, such as 28910. Why is this?

On a flop of QJT, K987 isn't that great.
If you have the book, then his answer is in the book as well. I doubt he said T982 is a good hand. But for hands where all cards are connected even if gapped, then you want the gap at the bottom, not at the top. Again, the explanation is fully hashed out in the book.

When you’re connected at the top you’ll draw to more nut straights/fewer 2nd best hands

Q987 is worse than QJT7 because it is going to have fewer nut outs when it does flop a wrap
on JT, Q987 is only nut with 7 or 8, whereas on 98, everything QJT7 hits is the nuts

Single suited perfect rundowns are the most overrated hands at microstakes. The hands you listed are worse.
