I check utg+2 checks pre flop raiser who bets very low on continuation bets when he doesnt have much usually just says pot when hes ready to move some chips. he bets 22 into a pot of 81 given my read on him i check raise to 122 other player behind shoves over the top for 485. am i calling this automatically?
How much information do you have on the player who shoved? Is he more likely to be shoving 88 or 4567 here? What is his hand range like? On a shove like this does he likely have some of your spades or some of your straight cards?
Personally, if I’m calling preflop and I see that flop, I’m calling off the chips on the all in shove. There 22+81+122+485 in the pot when it gets back to you to call 363 more. So you’re calling 363 to win 710.
If he has 8876 (a playable hand for a raise) that includes two spades, you’re a 34/66 dog and basically getting the right price. The only hand that’s terrible for you is if he somehow has 8865 (with 86 of spades) because then you’re literally just getting it in with the nut flush draw because a 4 doesn’t make you a winner and you’re a 25/75 dog. A third scenario is you’re getting it in against top set but all your outs are live (say he has 88910 with no spades). Then you’re only a 37/63 underdog and again the money is right.
It’s like, in most scenarios, if you put him on top set, the money is right. He really has to have 8865 with spades or something like A885 (where you chop if you hit the wheel) for you to not be getting the right price to call his shove.
