I'm playing 2-2 at parx and there's a preflop raise to 12. I call with A/5/9/10 with 3 diamonds in my hand and there's 4 callers, your typical mix of PLO players.

Flop is 2/3/J with 1 diamond. It gets checked around.

Turn is a 4 of diamonds so I make the wheel and the nut flush draw but I have 3 diamonds.

One guy bets out $30, we have a fold, then another call of $30 then the next player makes it $150. I'm 100% sure he has 5/6 and my wheel isn't good.

Me having that 3rd diamond in my hand caused me to fold. If I only have 2 diamonds I call. Is that a bad fold? I'm not being results oriented because I thought about it for like a full 30 seconds and said to myself I'm posting this on 2+2 regardless of what happens.

My reasoning for folding was that the 3 of diamonds and jack of diamonds were not outs as they pair the board so I only have 6 clean outs.

Standard fold imo for reasons you’ve stated. Not much to discuss here other than preflop hand selection. It’s ok to try and get in cheaply and see cheap turns etc (in position of course) with three to a suit with Ace. Especially vs average live players who are terrible. Idk your position but I’m Probly folding this preflop most of the time and calling button sometimes if bad players are in (and bad players in blinds). It’s overall a junky hand but nut potential is obviously worth speculating depending on situation.

You can really only consider calling closing the action multiway with several other callers. Otherwise yeah fold.

Yeah i would have closed the action. With that in mind do you call?

Also side question, if I only have say 2 of the suit is this an easy call then?

Do some work man… break out an equity calculator and calculate your equity. Write down the ev calc. Estimate your implied odds if you hit on the river.

Then ask questions and if you need help then ask.

Right now you are essentially asking a basic pot odds question.

You're not really closing the action because someone raised ahead of you and there could be further raises after you call, so I would fold in this scenario if I was confident my wheel was not the best made hand. I would fold even if I had only 2 diamonds. Plus you are not getting the right odds with only two other people in the pot assuming your wheel isn't good here. More interesting is are we ever freerolling another A5 (not 56) which might also play this way?

If someone bet $30 and two or three people called and we were last to act I would definitely call regardless of 2/3 diamonds in my hand.

Thanks, yeah of course after I folded the diamond hits the river and it gets checked down and 5/6 scoops it

You made a good fold that a lot of worse players wouldn’t have made. You really saved money in the long run even though you would have gotten lucky this particular hand. Don’t be results-oriented!
