Whats my Turn Play here? Whats my Turn Play here?

Hey all, any insight very welcome.

It had been a full table, but a few people had recently left/busted so we were down to 5 handed when this hand occured:

Hero in BB, short handed, 5 players, 0.05/0.10
No decent read on Villain (CO)

J 10 9 8

UTG: Fold
CO: call
Button: ($5.81, which i have covered) Raise to 0.45
SB: Fold
BB (Hero): Call (with CO still to act)
CO: Call
POT:$1.33

Flop: J 2 J

BB: Bets Pot $1.33
CO: fold
Button: Call

Turn: 3
BB: Check
Button: Check

River: K
BB: Bet 0.60
Button: Re-Raise $4.03 AI
BB: Call

What is my turn play here?
I checked as he had called Pot bet on flop, so i thought he must have something and my kickers were terrible (if he has the case J) plus he could already have a FH (and have better redraws, or a smaller FH with me needing to draw out)
AJxx, KJxx, QJxx, J3xx, 33xx are all ahead of me, J10xx drawing with me

Assuming I have just checked, How is my river play?
I thought a small value bet was in order, since I was already behind KJ (as my kicker was a 10), so the K would only be devastating if he had called flop bet with KKxx overpair (perhaps with FD, but board had already paired).

I think the pre-flop was OK
Flop was OK
Turn line needs some work.

Please help.
Many thanks

I think the way you played it Villain got you to put all your money in when you were behind. With hands like this against a preflop raiser when I'm out of position I tend to get very, very cautious. Our hand is OK, but nothing great. I batten down the hatches and try to see this hand through to the end as cheaply as I can. Which means I check the flop.

Don't agree

this is a more than decent hand, you flop a set (top set by the way)

Pot bet flop is cool, call means to me villain probably has overpair and/or a flush draw.

Turn under this assumption is a blank. So why check? Pot bet it, to make him pay for the draw. You still have close to the nuts (only J 3/2 or J with high kicker) actually beats you on the turn and the probability is rather low for that one.

So pot bet again on turn, if villain calls, he is pot committed (less than a buck left) so on any turn, all you have to call is 1 USD for a pot of around 12 USD, so you get great odds to call even if his set might be higher or if he made a boat

This is not a set, it is trips. There's a big difference.

are trips and a set not the same ??

you can argue that a set is better if i take 2 from my hand and 1 from the board than a set where i use 2 from the board, but we are talking here for both terms of "three of a kind" no?

No, they aren't the same. A set is hidden whereas trips are there for all the world to see. You can share trips, you cannot share a set. If you can share trips you can be beaten when you have them as he can have a bigger kicker or have already filled up. As I said, this is a hand that I try and get to the river as cheaply as possible with.

I think as passive as small stakes Omaha is you should pot the turn and fold the river, he's obviously on kings with spade draw.

Thank-you very much to everyone for their input.

Villain shows down KKxx (no flush draw)

So basically I stacked off on river with 0% equity, by the time the majority of the $ got in.

In hindsight, should have bet on turn (to push out drawing hands and reduce implied odds to almost nothing) OR checked down hand on river, since i was playing so passively on the turn, which only makes sense if i think i am beat, and my hand is not really strong enough to call a re-raise on the river (if i can't bet the turn).

Thanks again for your help in thinking through this type of situation.
