I once heard someone say that NLHE is basically about thin value-betting and getting ppl to lay down medium strength hands.

I'm not too keen on that description because I don't think it strays too far from "we make money when we make ppl call with worse hands or make them fold better hands" which surely applies to all forms of poker.

But if you had to condense what winning at PLO is about in a sentence or two, what would you say?

How do you think the recent legislation will effect the future of online poker sites? Do you feel you have adopted a lower variance style these days than the style you used maybe a year or so ago? How long are you able to maintain your A game in a session and do you feel like you stop short of that limit or go over that limit more often?

It took me a while but I think I'm much more Zen than what I used to me. I'm way less prone to tilt or emotional than before. I think when I first started, sure I was good at poker, but I was so bad at bankroll management, had huge tilt issues at and away from the table.

Had I won a bracelet 2 years ago I would probably have wired everything back online and just started playing huge again. I don't think it's gonna happen this time, at least not for now and not with that money. I might be more aggressive with my online bankroll but that's it.

From what I see right now, different style seems to work in PLO. The game is playing differently than NL , not every winning player have the same "stats". It might be getting to that point but it's nothing like NL I'd think.

Just like other forms of poker position is super important. In PLO it might be even more true since it's more of a flop game than NL. You rarely see someone bet/folding preflop.

I don't think it can be worse than what it has been the past few years .

Definitively. I could win/lose high 5 figs in 1 day. I don't anymore. I gave up some equity for more stability. There was a question that was asked a couple years ago asking people how much equity they'd give up for a steady win rate instead of having roller coasters months... and back then I was like wtf at giving up equity. Things can change I guess.

Not sure about my A game. I often play with my E game I guess. It's not uncommon for me to lose 20 BI+ in less than a few hours and play all day to win it back. I think the most hand I played in 1 session was close to 24k hands of PLO :/... Would have to check but it's in the neighborhood.

I have been asked a couple times about my transition from limit HS to PLO. After my WSOP results, people kept asking questions, not really here but in person. Felt like a good time to do it. Just came back from vacation so. If you don't like it, you can ignore it

1) Why do you feel not trying to up your hourly with your huge volume, is worth the variance, when you got such big score/bankroll booster? Feels more like what a random would do, not a good 2+2 reg. The last sentence is probably harsh, esp in a well, but I really want some insight there.

2) Any tips on:

a) multitabling
b) motivation and getting the hours in
c) poker as a job in general

Good Luck

Andreas

It's not like it's a secret or anything. Last year after the Team online PS recruitment I decided I wanted to increase my visibility online as well as live.

There was a rake race on party poker for a Party Poker Premiere League 4 spot. 15 players had to win theirs in a tournament, I bought mine by raking 25k~+ in way less than 30 days. Considering games on party poker are 1/4 of stars it's pretty big rake. I finished 2nd, winner take all. That gave me some TV time.

Before that I joined a french coaching site, opened up a twitter account and started twitting. I knew it wouldn't be enough, so I decided to play a bunch of live tournaments in the hope of final tabling something and improve my profile. Now that I had a great summer, that I have experience in playing highstakes, winning a bracelet, finishing second in the 10k too, SNE, crazy multitabling PLO and everything else said so far just make sense to make a In The Well post. I didn't think that on my own, my main language is french and it's a bit challenging to write long paragraph and put my ideas on paper. A couple people told me it would be interesting to do that. So I did.

It's fine really.

I had over 50% sold and since I am Canadian 30% were withheld for US taxes. I paid most of what I owned to my backer up front. So I don't have all that much right now to just gamble it up at 25/50.

I got burnt before playing HS LHE. Going lower variance for now just make more sense to me. My utility for winning 100k right now is way lower than my utility for losing 100k. Just not worth it right now. I'm going to be more aggressive with I have online tho as I don't have to withdraw all the time.

Get a nice setup, something with a nice resolution like 1 x 30 inch dell with 2x20 on the side or something like that. HEM + table ninja + stars planner is what I use.

I don't know. I'm a really addicted guy. I used to play 10 millions hours of Chess and then SC, WC3 and then poker. Poker almost never felt like a grind because it's how I am. To be honest I'd rather have it like you .

That's one part I haven't been able to figure out in 5 years. How to deal with everything else other than poker. I'm starting courses in physics this Fall and hopefully I'll find the motivation to start training too. I think poker as to stay a "hobby" in order to enjoy it. Forcing yourself to play is destructive more often than not.

1) favourite food?

2) favourite beer?

3) what are you aiming for in terms of vpps/fpps for the year?

4) what do you intend to spend them on?

5) did you go out to any strip clubs in vegas? trip reports?

6) how much stock do you put into HEM AIEV? do you think it's possible that certain playing styles lend themselves to appearing to run under or over ev for their entire playing career? or at least the amount of time they spend playing that style?

7) assuming you heard about the party/ongame merger, will you be putting money onto their site when it goes through? does it depend on traffic, software, rakeback?

8) the french-canadian market seems relatively untapped, are you expecting to become a stars pro anytime soon?

9) do you relate to any of these guys at all?

10) what sort of stats do you play when you play online these days?

11) what do you think of my play? please don't hold back, i won't take offence, feel free to go into detailed leak-finding if you so desire

12) did you find it weird that before we met out in vegas, we'd had lots of public online arguments, some of them at the tables, but when we met, we seemed to get on ok? did you get the feeling that i was fake at all? fwiw i was very conscious of this so when i met mindcirkus playing late-night $2/5 plo at the aria, i made a conscious effort not to be a standard fake 'a**-hole online, nice guy irl' and ended up mildly being a prick to him

13) do you still play computer games? if so, which ones? will you be getting an xbox360 kinect?

14) if you were a character in lost, who would you be and why?

15) what's your home work set-up? laptop/pc? picture if possible?

Having experienced such huge swings and played such huge volume - what negative effects do you think online poker has had on your mental state over your lifetime?

How often have you considered quitting poker in the past?

Do you think your addictive nature has been a help or a hindrance for you in poker?

How do I stop losing in this stupid game?

Can u explain your your thought process on PLO tournament strategy?
Do you take every edge possible? or
Do you avoid flips for your entire stack?
Do you 3bet more, less, or same as you would in cash games?
Did you elect to use all your rebuys immediately or did you save them to allow the ability to push all your edges early on?

Congrats on your success.

What would you do if you wouldn't play poker for a living?
Who is your fav. PLO player?
How should someone approach becoming SNE in the midstakes like PLO200 and 400?
Would you be interested to become an instructor one day for an online training site?

Good luck in the future!

I feel that many good poker players are held back from realizing their potential by their ego and lack of honesty with themselves.

You seem to have a refreshingly pragmatic attitude for a successful poker player; do you feel that this has contributed to your success?

1. do you ever get bored of playing poker poker? It seems like you are playing poker since forever so how do you stay motivated? Do you feel that the SNE chase helps this cause? Has the SNE chase helped to lend structure to your life.

2. How much do you estimate you have paid in rake in your lifetime.

3. I guess you have a few hands that stick in your mind, share some of them with us and give some backround on why they stick.

4. How many ships make a sheep?

5. If you were not a poker player what would you do?

6. Possibly following on from 5, you mention school - what did you study academically, has it helped your poker career? Do you miss academic life?

7. If you have the HH's can you post your biggest winning/losing pots you have played.

thanks.
