6 handed splashy / gambly game with a button straddle. it's late and most players are stuck / shooting it up.
hero has AsJsJh2h in CO. button straddles to 100, UTG opens to 400 (4x opens permitted), three callers to me, i call, button calls.
flop (2400) is AcQs8s, PFR leads for 900, three folds, hero flats, button shoves for 4300 total, UTG folds pretty quick.
button is stuck a bunch and can be a pretty spewy player. i certainly expect him to go with any set here, probably jams AQ with any decent backup, but probably also capable of at least sometimes jamming hands as bad as, i dunno, KQJx or KQTx with spades, QT98 with spades, QJT9 with one spade. obviously we have removal to a lot of those hands and there are not many combos available. we can just about eliminate AA from his range based on preflop action. he could also have hands like AKQT with K-high spades, but i would expect him to three bet a lot of his suited A-high rundowns pre, while his flatting range is pretty wide and weighted more towards semi-connected pair hands that make a set here, or three high cards with a dangler.
Imagine if we all had a quota on the number of thoughts we're allowed to have, lifetime, and you burnt a bunch of them on this easy call? You will frequently have both the best hand and best draw and when you're not you're still guaranteed good enough odds against like (AQ or better) which is essentially the made hand range that you're up against. Also maybe some Q8+draw hands too. Having blockers to the draw does weight his range away from those wraps but there's still 2 left in the deck and all the rest of the Ts, Ks and 9s, but also, having blockers to his draw means even more equity for you when you're up against the draw.
