The primary purpose with a 4-bet preflop is to have him call (if he folds preflop that's even better, but IME it won't happen too often), then check/fold to a 1/4 to 1/2 PSCBet on any reasonable flop when he thinks that you have AAxx and he doesn't have equity to continue.
