This matters a lot for weighting ranges for both players. Dead money worth several times the blinds should encourage lots of early aggression.
Or is there just some weird rule that defines "pot" preflop as much larger than it actually is? This should have the opposite effect, making people play tighter and trappier.
I see 'dead money' being oft misused. It's only dead when there's a sidepot that can be stolen. If I put money into the pot, and there's still you and another guy in the pot, that money is not 'dead' just because I've folded.
There seem to be various different weird rounding rules to do with pot size, this is probably one of them. Why should it be the case that people open tighter and trappier when you can make a slightly bigger than pot-sized raise?
