Villain I have marked as bad player,

Hero 100BB in CO
Villain 150BB in SB

Preflop: Hero has A 8 7 4
2 folds, Hero raise to 3.5BB, btn folds, Sb calls, BB folds

Flop: A 4 2
Villain checks, hero bets 6BB, Villain calls

Turn: 8
Villain checks, Hero bets 20BB, Villain calls

River: 3
Villain leads for 44BB, hero?

I seem to get in these spots a lot. I have close to the top of my range here and I end up facing a large bet on a bad run out.

Is this an easy fold or do you randomize whether you call or not without a 5?

You said villain is bad - how is he bad? Might help here. Villain should have a fairly narrow value range here - for him to call the turn bet and bet the river here the only hands I could think of would be A5 with hearts, 56 with hearts,54 with hearts. Combos are minimal for value - luckily we have no hearts and block Ax/4x. I think I'd call here without specific info to change my opinion.

I don't think you are at all close to the top of your range in this spot. I'd argue that you are actually close to the bottom of your range in this spot. Your turn betting range is two pair+ for value, flush draws and some Ace + straight blocker / straight draw cards. On the river, you will have a straight here fairly frequently, I think. You will almost never have worse than 2pr.

I think you can bet smaller on the flop without any hearts.

I like your turn bet a lot.

I think this is fairly easy fold on the river. I think you are at the bottom of your range, and I think people do not bluff in this spot nearly enough to justify a call.

But I agree with you on how this feels at the moment. You've been waiting and waiting for something, and finally, you have the top two, and then this happens. It sucks, and you are anchored to the fact that, on the turn, you did have a super strong hand. This happens to me too.

I'd fold. Villain should have a lot of 5s in range to profitably call turn and Hero also has a 5 reasonably often.

I think this is often enough a hand that was chasing. Especially a bad player will have too many of those and try to figure out a way to still win the pot on a scary run out. Some player reads could be helpful

I think the bet is also kinda big for just a 5. Looks a lot like he’s trying to scare hero’s 2 pair holdings.

You also have perfect blockers.

I don’t expect to win every time, but def enough. Should also be unexploitable to call this hand 100%.

Probably need more intel on 'bad' tendencies .. lead value %, slow play %, River play.

Heat of the moment spot I guess .. What would V do with Ah3h3xXx? We block so much of the Board it's hard not to think a flush draw BD'd a gutter somehow.

If this was live how fast were the calls on Flop/Turn? Typically draws or 'made' hands are 'insta' calls when bet into. I'm a live read guy so I do allow this to have some influence on my decisions.

If any, what consideration does V give you for how you played the hand? Do you play the Turn the same with your full range of hands?

And yes, looking from afar, I think you are mid to low in hand strength here (when calling) even with top 2. GL

V would have to be pretty bad to lead into you with a hand that can't beat top two. If V is that bad, call; if not, fold.

Is he bad playing 90/5 or 70/60?

Without reads I’m calling without a heart. Your 478 also block 5x hands.
