I had an interesting spot the other night playing very deep plo 8-handed, and was toying with odds oracle to figure out the best play.


2$/4$, 8-handed.
SB, BB and Hero are all effective 1000bb (4000$), other players are around 100-150 bb.
My read on BB is that he is a gambler playing 60/10. overvalues marginal made hands, is interested in playing big pots and feeling the rush. But playing very straightforward in big pots. No big pots have been played yet.

PREFLOP
Hero is UTG with straddle.
Action folds to the CO. CO calls. BTN calls. SB calls. BB pots to 48$.
Hero has 7s 7h 6h 5s. Hero pots to 168$.
CO folds, BTN folds, SB folds. BB raises to 500$. Hero calls.

FLOP
Pot is 1024$, effective SPR is 3.
Flop comes Jc 8s 6d. BB bets 1000$.
Hero tanks. Hero raises to 3000$ and is all-in. BB calls and shows Ad Ac Jd 2h.

1/ Is that hand a good choice to iso preflop given our stacks? Is there another possible sizing pre to get a higher SPR?
2/ When he pots on the flop after 4bet pre, I'm very confident he has exactly all AAxx and nothing else, probably only barring AAJJ, AA88. Is there some merit to just calling and calling any turn or shoving if he checks?
3/ Other comments?

I did change the hand to make it more borderline, the real hand was 8765ds. The runout went turn 5h, river As and that was my biggest pot ever

Please post the real hand (wtf on changing the hand? If you are going to do that, don't tell us about it.). Don't give results for 24 hours.

Why on earth are you re-potting pre from OOP with that hand? It seems as if you are the gambler here. Once you get that flop, not much else you can do.

I don't get why you post a HH then below say everything was different - so what are we commenting on? 8765ds is still a dog to AA so I don't get the repot pre, and it's even worse with 7765. On the flop you know he has AA here so I would play accordingly knowing he's not folding - 8765 of course is a fist pump jam, 7765 would be closer to a call than anything.

I was about to say I hate the pre flop play with a small pair on top of a small three card rundown then I read "I did change the hand to make it more borderline, the real hand was 8765ds" which of course is a lot better hand to isolation raise with or play against a 4 bet if it often means aces.

There is merit but on the flop (with your real hand posted at the end of the OP) I'd get it in on the flop with two pair and an open ended straight draw which could save you if he flopped a set with his aces. With a much higher SPR the call then call/bet/jam a safe turn would be better but you could only get a higher SPR if there wasn't so much betting and raising before the flop.

Note I'm new to posting again (posted a lot about 20 plus years ago) and generally only play live not online in games that tend to be very loose but not that aggressive ($5 big blinds or $2 BB with a $5 bring in). In my games I tend to come in for a small raise first to act in EP (often 2 or 3 BBs) and will limp after limpers. In late position I'm far more aggressive. I don't like to bloat pots out of position.

I'm tiptoeing into posting and hoping for get my flaws in reasoning exposed. For now can only play a few sessions a month but hope to play more when I retire in a few years.

7765 is a terrible 3b. Why are you shoving flop? There’s no point since he’s not folding. Call and plays turns.

With 8765ds we can iso. Getting it hu ip is a great result. You can fist pump shove flop, but calling is fine too. Turns are super easy to play.
