Not sure about prices in Buenos Aires yet, only been here a bit less than a day. I was in Cordoba (second largest city in Argentina) for about four months and reading online it seems like Bs As will be 10-20% more expensive.
The last three months in Cordoba I spent less than $1100 each mo, which include $375 tuition payments, so really $725/mo. Also, important note is that the official peso to dollar exchange range is something like 5-6 pesos/$1 but you can exchange on the black market and get ~9:1 depending on when you do it.
I paid 1400 pesos for my apt/mo. It was shared with two other people. Nothing extravagant or luxurious or anything but not a ****hole either. I found it online, not from a touristy/foreigner site. Though, I was told i overpaid from a couple friends so could probably find cheaper still. Pretty good location, though not in the most expensive area.
Spent ~1800/mo on food. Usually cooking for myself and eating out maybe 2 times/week. Occasional coffees and stuff. Restaurants can be between 30-100+ pesos. Fresh fruit, beef is cheap and everywhere.
Spent ~1000/mo on entertainment. I don't drink too excessively and would often drink somewhere with friends before going out. This seems like an easy spot to splurge and I still spent more than I'd like drinking. There's places where cover is $10 w/o any drinks, and one drink is another $10. All sorts of cheaper places as well though. Probably went out once or maybe a little more on avg each week to bars/clubs. Also included in this is movies, some camping trips which i guess are pretty cheap actually, random other things...
Spent less than 100 pesos/mo on transport. Mainly just walked/rode a bike everywhere with the occasional taxi or bus to further away places.
Spent a few hundred more/mo on things like yoga, salsa classes, books
~300/mo on misc stuff
Some bank xfer fees as well
Might be missing a few things but that's the main stuff.
I like Argentina, I can have a lot higher quality of life here than I could have had back home. I was covering living expenses including my tuition payment, just off of rakeback at 20cent playing 8-9 tables at a time, 20-25 hours/week. So yea, no need to wait til getting out of micros before coming out here
