Broke and hoping to grind up a bankroll Broke and hoping to grind up a bankroll

Hi guys!

I'm a 30-year-old, depressed man hoping to grind up a bankroll and move to Thailand or a similar country. I'm currently living in Australia and live a sad existence; I don't socialise and gamble away my government disability payment every fortnight (I have schizophrenia). I'm currently completely broke and have $0 in my account. HOWEVER I'm hoping that in the next few hours I cash in the #ThanksGG Flipout. If not, I'll have to wait until Tuesday to get my daily $15 payment... I have a financial guardian who administers daily payments due to my gambling addiction. I have a 120,000 starting stack in the tournament so have a decent chance of cashing *fingers crossed*. My plan is to grind out $0.01/$0.02-$0.05-$0.10 using 20 buy in bankroll management and dropping down in stakes if I reach 15 buy ins. I'll use 50 buy ins for $0.10/$0.25-$0.50/$1. If I cash in the freeroll I'll be starting with about 10 buy ins for $0.01/$0.02 PLO so won't be able to use my super aggressive 20 buy in bank roll management. My plan is to reach $0.50/$1 PLO as quickly as possible (I'm a proven winner at these stakes over a large sample size). My vice is sports betting which has kept me perpetually broke over the years, I'm hoping this thread will give me the motivation to stay clear of reckless gambling. I'm going to use this thread as a way to keep myself accountable and motivated. I'll share results along with regular updates. I'm happy to get tracking software if anyone can give me a recommendation. That might make this thread a little more interesting and my results a bit more believable. Wishing everyone the best of luck at the tables!

The tournament starts in 30mins and the biggest stack at my table only has 28,000 chips so that's an automatic cash. Here's to hoping it's a bit more than the $16 minimum. I've also got $3.50 coming in from a leaderboard prize. I'm going to have a shot at $0.01/$0.02 PLO so I'm off to a good start

Cashed for $28.38. Time to start grinding. I really can't be bothered with grinding out $0.01/$0.02 so I'm going to jump straight into $0.02/$0.05 and drop down to $0.01/$0.02 if I hit $10. Hopefully I don't bust :/

Running extremely good, on $150. $44 of that was from being on the table of a bad beat jack pot, shame I wasn't involved in the hand. Run it twice/cash out really helps reduce variance. I'm going to take a shot at 10PLO now and go for the $90 first place leaderboard prize.

Took a shot at 25PLO. Running so pure, on $369. People seem unusually spewy, I guess it is a Sunday. I'm going to pull an all nighter and grind 4 tables of 10PLO and 2 tables of 25PLO. I hope to be at 50PLO soon but am going to use 50 buy ins as a rule and drop down at 40 buy ins.

hey man dont label yourself that way as long as you have a solid base than keep going or create one and cut the people out of your life that look at you that way thousands of people play poker for a living its tough i know when your in bad spots not to reach out to people but set yourself up good and surround yourself with peoplke who are solid and youll see it through

Thanks, I was planning on moving to Thailand when/if I hit $10,000. I'm a complete idiot though, I got up to $600 and decided to play 200PLO. I don't know what came over me. Bankroll management is tough... Needless to say, I busted pretty quickly. I was hoping this thread would motivate me to stick to proper bankroll management and slowly move up the stakes. I don't know how to stick to proper bankroll management. If you have any tips that would be helpful. Is there a way to set table limits on GGPoker? I've got a 122,000 chip starting stack in the #ThanksGG Flipout tournament for tomorrow so I guess it's back to the drawing board with what will likely be a $20 bankroll... I don't know if I can self-motivate myself to play 2PLO. Feeling pretty frustrated with my decision to play 200PLO and know I'll likely repeat the same mistake if I can't figure out a way to motivate myself to grind out the micros. Anyway, off to bed now!

as long as you have shelter and can focus on the right things youll make it... i find threads if you do these dont really help when your in a bad position. better to have a personal log. dont wanna let people see things you dont know theyre intentions. its tough but private life is best.

I've got shelter and food provided through my financial guardian, I'm only able to access $15 a day of payments so I'm at no risk of going homeless but thanks for the concern. I'm going to take a shot at 5PLO again assuming I cash in the freeroll. This time I hope I can stick to solid bankroll management if I run it up a bit at 5PLO.

Biggest stack at my table only has 30,600 chips so that's another automatic cash for me. I'm hoping this time I can stay disciplined and stick to 5PLO. I'm going to set myself a basic 24 hour goal of sticking to these stakes. $55 for first place on the leaderboard is a solid bankroll booster. I also hope I don't get hit with the ugly side of variance using my what is likely 4 buy in bankroll management. I've also got $18 coming in from leaderboard prizes in the next few hours so hopefully things work out. I'd love to get out my current situation which is going to involve grinding out stakes I don't want to... Wishing everyone all the best

Cashed for $21.50. Time to stick to 5PLO!

If you don't have the discipline to grind out the stakes you don't want to play, then you don't have the discipline to be a long term winner.

Somewhat true. Anyway just busted my $21.50 at 5PLO. Waiting half an hour now for my daily payment to come in, should have $45 for late payments over the weekend. Hopefully I run it up, probably going to jump into stakes way too high again, just hoping eventually I'll sun run it until I can play the stakes I want to.

How do I go about getting a staking contract? I can't really prove I'm a winning player besides sharing banking history and then I'd just look like a massive sports betting degen that shouldn't be trusted with money. I'm a decent winner over many millions of hands.

Life advice man; you’ve got to deal with your gambling addiction first, otherwise it doesn’t matter what you do or how much you win, you’re only one spew away from broke and suicidal except this time you could be in Thailand where no one will give a F about you period.

Years ago a mate said something to me and it’s really really true, it’s not how much you win, it’s what you leave with.

Great example, you just 20x your money, had 60 buyins for .05/.10 and you just donked it off it one spaz session playing vs people that can afford to take 30/70’s vs you.

Had you dealt with your **** and grown up a little, recognised no one is coming to save you and you have to do it yourself, maybe you wouldn’t have just thrown away the opportunity to safely grind up at like $50 a day.

Trying to show you some love bro. GL.

Thanks for the advice. I know I've got to deal with my gambling addiction before I can have any success in life. I actually went to rehab a few years ago for six months and successfully abstained from all gambling including online poker for two years. I've also got two suicide attempts under my belt so really need to work on discipline if I want to find a way out of depression. I feel like a complete idiot as you said for not just appreciating that I was rolled for 10PLO and just sucking up the boredom and grinding it out. I've only got $4 left on the account after my $45 deposit so it's not looking great. I'm going to try and grind out 2 tables of 2PLO... Thanks again for the advice! I'll try and show a little maturity from now on in terms of bankroll management, as you said no one is going to save me but myself.

Good for you bro.

If things don’t go well on this occasion just hang tight and keep things in perspective, yes the immediate micro roll might get shredded but the reality is that money wise you might get 1 cocktail for that entire roll in some fancy bar, there’s always another opportunity but it may take some preparation next time around.

There are ways to set limits on GG its under settings, responsible gaming.

You can set loss limits per 24 hours, 1 week, 1 month.

The 24 hour limit is a bit skewed.

Loss Limit = 100

Play session and log out + 100

Log back in before the 24 hour clock resets and your loss limit is now 200.

Log back in after the 24 hour clock resets and your loss limit is 100 again.

I understand why it moves to 200 but it would be nice if the counter reset if you were logged out for X amount of time.

Thanks for the tip, I wish they just had something similar to what they have on Pokerstars where you can set your table limits, that would be really helpful. Regardless a loss limit would be very helpful for me if I run up a bit of a bankroll.

Quick update: cashed for $60 in the ThankGG Flipout. Grinded it up $200 playing 5PLO. I'm going to now take a single buy in shot at the $21.60 Omaholic bounty tournament and grind out 4 tables of 10PLO. I hope I don't get hit with variance, I really don't want to grind any lower but will show a little discipline and drop down if I run bad.

Entered the $54 Omaholic tournament as well, busted pretty quick. Coming first in the $21.60 tournament with 13 people left, 9 in the money. Fingers crossed I get some run good, would be nice to be able to shot take some 25PLO.
