The tourney was ok, play was hella nitty and extremely weak-tight, I was shocked honestly. Seems no surprise now that someone at the top of the game like Fedor can go on a huge winning streak if the play in this tourney is representative of other high-rollers.
I think that's mostly because of the selection of players you saw for the first three days. The feature tables with Hart, Katz and Klein were pretty brutal from a skill level and entertainment standpoint (after Hart was eliminated anyways). Top guys basically have to go back to playing standard tournament poker when playing against one of these guys.

Vague. That's what this whole thing has been. Is it because nobody actually knows? Are they being told to hide it for whatever reason?

And the tag team event is down to 7 and they are not streaming it.

This is a really bad start. Thinking I should have paid 10 cents rather than 10 dollars.

And there are no links, banners etc. on WSOP letting people know PokerGo is
covering the events. What the heck is that? What kind of coverage deal was made? Terrible for both.

If you click "live coverage" it goes to a 2016 page saying that there is currently no coverage lmao. I subbed but this company is run like a joke. You have an entire marketplace at your disposal and have literally **** the bed despite no pressure from competition or marketshare to compete for.

Hey PokerCentral, great job not streaming this final table. I'm sure no one would want to be watching this final table with names like Negraneau, Kurganov, JC Tran, Ankush, Jacobsen etc. etc. seriously F off. Ruined the SHR and now going to ruin the WSOP sweating for the fans.

I subscribed under the false impression that they were going to stream all the WSOP events. I'd gladly pay to watch WSOP but not willing to pay to miss 90% of them. I'd rather miss the dearth of **** they are streaming and see PokerGo fail and WSOP streams get picked up by a subscription company next year that actually streamed the events.

Same here I thought I was getting coverage of most of the events, not 5 spread out through the summer. I'll probably be asking for a refund tomorrow.

Why would pokergo acquire the rights to the WSOP and not stream all the final tables?

Probably because they are not a well run company.

I'd kill to know how much they paid for the rights and see a revenue report after the WSOP is over. It's not going to be pretty.

It's obviously impossible to say without any actual numbers, but does anyone else think they would have made a lot more if they went the Twitch route? The best way to monetize it IMO would be to stream it on Twitch so it's available in high quality everywhere, then monetize the VoDs. Do exactly what OGN (the League of Legends broadcaster) does, show everything live for free, but if you want VoDs, you have to subscribe to their Twitch channel (it was $6 or $7 a month IIRC).

I'd be surprised if that wouldn't get ~140% of the subs the current model is getting to at least break even.

I think they went they went the right route to be honest, just failed to execute a real product. Even if they took a loss this year, knowing that they tabled a good product this season would allow them to do a proper ad campaign next season and hopefully find growth.

Three marquee tournaments are not enough to charge 100$ a year, and the difference between LoL and Poker is honestly night and day. League of Legends has a huge casual fan base, so monetization outside of paid content can actually scale. I personally would not have spent a dime on their paid sub service if I could watch live for free, yet I subbed to this product in the hopes I'd be able to watch FT's and larger events in real time.

A subscription model for this service makes no sense. I happily pay for all kinds of value add services like newspapers, strategy/touts, etc.

The only way I'd ever pay for this is if a close friend or family member was in the final table and I was unable to travel out to watch them. At that point I could see the value proposition.

The WSOP should be paying to promote their product. Advertisers should be paying for my viewership. You're crazy to think I'm going to pay you.

Just had a suggested post on Facebook from PokerGo.

'Don't miss a minute of the WSOP'

Just as the Tag Team FT is about to start, that they aren't streaming.

Yes, normally just before the ME. Pretty crazy to have it at the beginning, especially just after the SHR. You price out those people who would play if they had a big score during the series.

I'd purchase a PokerGO sub right now if they were streaming the tag team event FT and would be streaming FTs all summer. With that schedule? I'll be passing. Little interest in watching Day 1s and nearly exclusively NL.

Huge downgrade from last year.

Instead of free 60+ final tables, they have pay 13 events, most of it preliminary days.

I'm no Steve Jobs, but I dont like their business strategy...

Maybe it would have been smarter to give new sign ups 2 free months, so they get the WSOP free, then those who like it can actually stay on. And those that decide to not stay on, might be inclined to come back next year.....

I doubt they barely have 5,000 paying subs at this point. Hell, the free streams I doubt rarely got over 12,000 live viewers..

I was fully intending to subscribe, but having seen that schedule I now doubt I will. The best thing about last years WSOP strrams for me was the non holdem events with Mercier's run etc and some excellent guests in the booth. Yeah there's the HORSE and some PLO but there's not even the $50k Players Championship. The streams are on overnight where I live (UK) so I can't watch them live anyway.

I was looking forward to watching the previous SHR Bowls and cash games which I heard nothing but good things about but couldn't find/didnt get round to watching, so may sub for a month just to binge those but that'll be about it.

And wtf with no mention of the live coverage on the WSOP site, what a great deal that was for Poker Go
