What are some of you 2+2er's favorite poker related films? Obviously 99.3% of our first answers will be Rounders, but other than the obvious what are some other good flicks out there?

Also part 2 of this question, does anybody happen to know where one can watch the movie Deal with Burt Reynolds as the old wise poker player who stakes the young prodigy? It may be corny but i wanted to give it a chance. Another one i've been trying to locate is High Roller the Stu Ungar Story. Michael Imperioli from the Soprano's plays Ungar, and from what i remember (haven't seen it in years) this was pretty entertaining.

Deal seems to be on pay cable quite a bit - not sure about streaming options. The Ungar story pops up on cable here and there as well. Both movies are nothing to write home about.

Of course "Rounders" is the best.

The other all poker movies that I've seen are "Lucky You", "All In" and "Deal" and they suck.

Also I've seen a couple of movies that are partially about poker: "High Roller: The Stu Ungar Story" 6/10, "Runner Runner" 4/10

Then there are movies that have a poker scene in them. The ones I've seen are "Cool Hand Luke" 9/10, "A Street Car Named Desire" 9/10 and "Casino Royale" 8/10. They are much better movies but the poker is not what makes them good movies.

The fact that people make tenuous connections and call all these things poker movies just goes to show how bad the quality is.

I want to see "Bet, Raise Fold" at some point which seems good because it's a doc. The main problem with poker movies is that they are unbelievable so this one shouldn't fall into that trap

Bet, Raise, Fold was interesting...it's literally all about Online Poker and Black Friday though.

Runner Runner 4/10, that's generous. I'd probably give it less than 0/10 if I could and I'm a Timberlake film overall, but the script/plot/directing is just too awful.

Obviously just my opinion, but the best movie where poker is central to the action is "A Big Hand for the Little Lady". And please, if you say anything about this movie in this thread, avoid spoilers for those who haven't seen it. It's an old film, not sure where you can easily get it or if it's on Netflix or something.

Later, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

I thought that The Grand was decent and had some funny moments: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0427998/

The Grand is excellent! Had forgotten about that.

Bet/Raise/Fold is a good watch with decent production.

Nosebleed is awesome too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ju_7_595mDE
It's in French, English subs though and has been widely acclaimed around this site

I quite liked Shade too, on the more Hollywood side of things. Sly Stallone, Thandie Newton, Jamie Foxx.. not bad at all. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/shade/

Here are two from 2015 I haven't seen yet but want to check out:
Deadly Gamble - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3422272/
Mississippi Grind - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ooca5idaNSk

Also on my list is the original The Gambler. Can't believe I haven't seen it yet really.

Mississippi Grind looks great but I have a feeling the poker scenes are going to be lol dumb and even though Ben Mendelsohn will be great his genius poker insight will be something like "strong means weak and weak means strong."

Mississippi Grind was good. The poker wasn't lolbad but it wasn't the reason to see the movie either, although at least they have realistic hands which is saying something.

Still an enjoyable movie, with reasonably good character development and study. Best thing was the chemistry between Reynolds and Mendelsohn, they both did a good job and played well off each other. They very beginning is actually one of the most cringe worthy moments in the movie, so just be sure not to shut if off right away, but it gets good after that.

They don't really go over any "poker strategy" from what I remember. The hands are fairly realistic too.. no straight flush vs quads bull****.

Agreed. Was just a great character study on two highly flawed individuals who need each other and the acting was great. That mendelsohn guy is super underrated actor.

Deal 2008:

1) http://www.tubeplus.is/player/129772...d=kq6umdhcmb70 I had to close a tonne of popups but the movie does actually play eventually.

2) https://kat.cr/deal-2008-dvdrip-xvid...-t1169540.html I'm part way through downloading and it's super slow, only 1 seeder, but am confident from experience this will be legit

Sorry mods if posting links isn't cool.. just figured nobody would care for a movie that gets 3% on rottentomatoes ;p

Big Hand for a Little Lady is hands down best poker movie ever...great cast.

Best individual poker scene is Shaw vs Newman in The Sting.

Yes to both of these. Big Hand is one of the most fun movies you'll ever see, and The Sting is one of the best ever.

What's this I hear about, at the end of Mississippi Grind, there's audio of Joe Navarro recommending Botox injections in the face to prevent people from getting a read. Someone told me about it and said it was very weird and out of place. Anyone know about this?
