Just pointing out that he is obviously doing something right. He has been on ESPN telecasts since at least 2002 and they have not changed their commentators since. Also, he probably has a producer who is telling him how they want him to act, and like any good employee, does what his boss directs him to.

Chad's a throwback to seedy casino lounge entertainers of the seventy's. His ancient and decrepit jokes are only funny to old ladies who don't watch poker anyway.

Lon is the straight guy so someone has to be the funny guy. This works well with Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten all these years and it works pretty well with Lon and Norman.

FFS. Do the Norm haters all think ppl watch the wsop broadcasts mainly for insight into levelling wars and optimal resteal sizing?

The show is entertainment. It's supposed to be entertaining. Norm is entertaining. He makes me giggle. He makes watching the likes of Hachem and Hellmuth, and all those everyperson donkament tards, bearable.

IMO anyway.

Personally I think hes fine, if I was looking for great in depth commentary on poker I probably would be searching for something that isn't as massively edited and produced for casual fans/entertainment.

I can't believe how polarizing Norman is. I know a lot of people find his act tired, and I do too, but that's probably because we watch a lot more televised poker than the average guy flipping channels and looking for something to kill time.

He's just kinda there, he can be mildly funny at times and mildly irritating at times, doesn't often add much to the broadcast but he's not so irritating that I have to watch it on mute. I would say the same about the majority of color commentators covering sports -- they're trying to explain what's going on to viewers with no idea what's going on. That's their job.

I also think that Norman Chad's original TV column in USA Today was one of the best sports columns period. It used to be Rudy Martzke one day and Norman Chad the next. I don't think newspapers have TV columns like they used to - at least in terms of humor and quality.
