When I hear Phil Ivey, reminds me of the time he bluff Jamil Dia during the Aussie millions, the guy almost had a heart attack cuz he doesn't know what to do, his eyes are bulging and I thought going to faint, that was classic Phil.

Hey this is how I see it too.

Plus he has tons of money making it easier for him to do it then someone scraping by who had borrowed (altho in a perfect world this wouldnt matter).

Well, he could have just kept his mouth shut and not bothered, and likely noone would have known. It's a classy, super-unselfish anecdote in a community filled with me-first hustlers. That's why he's the stone cold nuts.

Am I the only one who wouldn't pay? The way i see it if I owe somebody money and that guys dies i consider the debt to die with him. Think of it this way - If Chip Reese was the one to owe Ivey money when he died, would Ivey expect the wife to pay? If i owe money and the guy dies debt over, if i'm owed money and the guy dies debt over. If i die while owing or being owed money debt over.

When you reverse it as you did its obv a totally diff situation imo. I'd like to think not many people are inhuman enough to hit up a mourning widow for her deceased husbands debt.

The way the circumstances were originally I think its only fair that Phil paid, I don't think its just the accepted norm, and because of that its a gesture that speaks for his decency in an industry where selfish attitudes are rife.

How do you think this will play out if you die and the guy you owe money to is:

The casino holding outstanding markers?
The bank that loaned you $ to buy your house?
The IRS/government tax collector?

Debt still over?

That's true.

And I'm not questioning Ivey, he obviously did a good thing.

However, any reason he didn't come forward six months earlier? Was this a very recent debt or something? Wish we knew more about it.

I just have a feeling that he owed him this debt for a long time and his passing was sort of a nudge to make sure he gets it paid off. Probably started feeling guilty.

Either way, he clearly did the right thing and we don't have all the information anyway it could have been a very recent debt.
