"I guess I am thinking about this matter because when my friend Chip Reese died, only Phil Ivey called and said, “I owe Chip a big figure. Where can I drop it off?” Chip was a very generous and caring guy who loaned a lot of people of lesser ability money regularly. None of them came forward with offers to pay debts that I know they owed. Oh, well, maybe I am still missing Chip and remembering what a great guy he was and how unfair it is that he left us so early."

Pretty cool of Phil to do that.

I'm not saying that Phil did this, but I've always heard around the poker table that many of the gamblers/debtors paid their debts to the decedent/creditor by writing a check marked as paid in full and dropping it off in the casket of the deceased at the viewing.

Not true. Even "posessing the elements necessary to satisfy said debt", most would not.

It was nice of Phil. Might have been out of line for Doyle though, as I am not sure, but Doyle was not relative. So perhaps others who owed Chip money made arrangements directly with his family.

I don't think Phil gave him the money, Phil wanted to know who he could give it to. Everyone knows Doyle and Chip were BEST FRIENDS. They were more family then some peoples actual families.

Phil is a stand up guy, a credit to the poker community.

I dont get it. Paying the debt to the deceased's family is just plain decency.

Are we saying that Ivey is a credit to the poker community because he possesses basic human decency?

The real story are the guys that owed money and didnt pay up. What scum.
