I know some people who were filmed during their game for this doc, one of whom went on to win a bracelet this year. There stuff ended up getting cut from the final edit. I am left with the impression that the Director changed direction part way through editing, maybe due to the miscarriage. Was looking forward to watching this, but found it very disjointed, and a bit of a downer. Unecessarily so . . .

watched this yesterday,i would award it 3/10

the main premise of the film is to focus on the actual filmmaker, trying to make a living from solely from poker after just having a child with another one possibly on the way, grinding is going to have a lot of impact on his life in this situation

instead the film focuses mainly on a 25 year old who still lives at home with his mum, the proprietor of a gambling club trying to regain access to his club after a dispute with his landlord (WHAT HAS THAT GOT TO DO WITH GRINDING!!!!!!),and a father of two

you don't really the impact poker has on any of these lives and you do not really care

the choice of music is absolutely awful

EPIC LOL MOMENT FROM THE FILM
----------------------------------------------------

actual filmmaker talking

" the late night and unreliable income are taking there toll and now with the second baby on the way I'm feeling even more pressure to do well at the tables"

film then switches to him playing poker at the club

"but getting dealt poker jacks definitely helps"

LOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

------------------------------------------------

thank god somebody put this on the internet for others to watch

the actual filmmaker states at the start that he left his job took a break from film making to look after his family and after the recession found it hard

your always going to find it hard making garbage like this

lol I watched about half of this.

There's this fat kid Andre who considers himself a "poker pro" and a real "degenerate"

We see him talking saying "If I go bust then I mean I really go bust. We're talking nothing. No money for the bread and milk and cheese. Zero. But that's how I roll"

Cut to Andre later we see him living in luxury with his rich parents! They showed his mom feeding him a slap up nosh - what a clown!

I might upload this to youtube cause it's comedy gold.

We also got to see Andre berating this player "lol you called me with a pair of 4s you fish. How do you call me witha pair of 4s" etc. Then Andre starts pouring the villains chips all all his face!!

It was **** but there was two interesting characters. I forget their names

-The old guy who got kicked out of his "gaming club" and his stuff confiscated by the landlord. He was cool. Life's all about the gamble for him.

-Also the guy in his 30s who drank the **** out of it playing online but actually seemed like a reasonable poker player. He did ok in a few live tourneys too.

Andre just seemed like an extreme donkey. Can't believe how supportive his parents were of him too.

I watched this last night and after reading some of the posts I wasnt sure if I would stick though it all prior to viewing.

I did watch the whole thing and I have to say I enjoyed it.

Andre - I was happy to see how supportive his family was of him and his father was really cool with the whole " You are single, you have no mortgage, no kids, what the hell are you worried about " That was nice to see and I felt happy for him.

Him at that club, rubbing the chips on himself and talking his smack talk. This is the kind of thing that makes me happy to be an online player but it got a response from me and others in this thread, so good for the film.

What did happen with that whole Victory Poker contest? I searched ( not in depth but didnt find out much ) I saw the VP mentioned in that other documentary as well but nothing passed that. I assume they folded but did they ever have a winner? How did Andre end up doing?

Lawrence, the man who ran the card club, I did like his attitude and how he looked at life but I did feel bad for him. His landlord was a total prick but again I have to think about money management. If this guy was making 2K a night, I think that was the figure, how does he not have the funds to just pay this assclown off and then make a plan to relocate? Maybe I am getting the 2K figure mixed up with another card room in Toronto but I though it was his club that was bringing this in.

Danny did appear to have some skill in the showings that we were presented although he was a degenerate as well with the whole " The more I drink, the better I play " and passing out in front of his laptop while playing some PS mtts. It was nice to see his love for his children and how his family was his motivation. At the start I was like, who is this clown but again, he did well from what we saw and he had 'some' skills. Not sure what his longrun is but he must be doing something right to be able to support his family.

As for Matt. I did feel bad for him and his wife. I mean poker is why we are on these forums ( most of us ) but of course there is life off the felt and sometimes it can be cruel. I thought though it was a little irresponsible for him to be having a second child while being in the financial situation he was in but who in the hell am I to say anything about that. I felt bad about the outcome but was happy that he still had his two year old daughter.

In all I thought it was decent. Again, I wasnt sure what to expect but I was happy that I watched it. It kept me in and I wasnt ever feeling the urge to just turn it off.

Would I watch another poker documentary done by Matt? I sure would. I am happy to see that there are people making them. I never heard of " Boom " but would be happy to check that out as well.
