I don't actually know how to play poker anymore...So is this standard?

Yes, this is standart. You would need some real specific reads that he is supertight and not jamming nearly enough in these spots to think about laying this down.

Edit: He "should" be jamming over 60% which he is probably not doing. If he shoves less than 29% (something like A2s, A8o, K6s, KTo, Q7s, QTo, J7s, JTo, T7s, 97s, 87s) you can fold A8s, but this should only be the case for a really tight player or if this is a small/micro stakes STT. It comes down to how your perceive villain, but your default should be a call imo.

Super snap call. I think the only time I’ll think about what range the opponent is shoving is a super fishy player who literally limps all hands. Even then this is too strong of a hand to fold just something to keep in mind.

I can't blaming SB for his jam which is a correct move for him.
I might think twice to call with A8s, shall be ok but kindly on the edge.
