I've played mostly Heads up SNGs for a while, but after playing 6max cash tables yesterday (and losing), I noticed that I am way more prone to tilting with cash vs sngs.

Something about playing with chips vs real cash seems to be psychologically easier for me (partially could be the losing too, I guess...)

Anyone else have this experience?

Of course, almost every poker player probably has the same experience. Even if the value of the chips is the same (losing a $200 stack in cash vs busting in a $200 buy-in tourney), tourneys put one more layer of distance between your brain and the value of the chips.

This is one of the reasons why casinos make you play with chips instead of using cash: because it is psychologically easier to part with something that isn't real money.

Yes definitely suffered the same issue. I would urge you to tackle it rather than play SNG because it tilts you less. I did the same for nearly 2 years, and it makes a HUGE difference to your tournament play to be a competent cash player. If you stick with cash, study, learn from your mistakes you will get better at cash games. Knowing what to do with your range makes your decision easier and better and as a result I now tilt far less than I did.

Good advice. I've been playing lots of cash too lately and starting to learn to control tilt a little better.

It's funny because in life I'm super chill and pretty good at rolling with things. I don't tend to get upset easily, but getting sucked out on or coolered 2 or 3 times in a row makes me feel stuff that I don't usually encounter in daily life.

But that's ultimately good, becoming a better person through poker. Hopefully at least.

In tourneys and sng I know that I cant win every day, week or month. Depends on the sng hour or day. So when i play cash for some hours and did not win any money, I am feeling bad, robed especially in PLO. Whan I play sng as now, I am feeling nice and relaxed.

I feel the same thing. I'm a break even to slightly winning cash game player AND it stresses me to no end when things go poorly and I definitely compound it through tilt.

SNG give me the same feeling as tournaments. Also lets me play braver which is a big leak of mine getting too tight when I'm losing, rather than too spewy. Makes me much less on my big hands and compounds the losing.

This seems no different than game selection to me. I realize it's where my strengths are and ultimately I play this game because I want to win, from a game theory perspective, not monetarily. Cash games can fluctuate so quickly and it just is jarring to my brain, I think. I hope this makes sense typed as much as in my head.
