Pokerstars making changes to SNG offerings

I've just been listening to the latest 2+2 Pokercast, and if you fast forward to around 1hr 27mins or so you'll find some information from Stars pertinent to SNG players - namely about SNG offerings and rake adjustments. No full details there yet, but it certainly looks like Turbos are going to see some changes in offerings and rake, hopefully for the better.

Yeah, the lowered rake has been expected for a while. Man, I miss Stars.

He talks about "buyin standardization" across the board. He pretty much confirms that the 16's will become 20's and that the rake on a whole will be slightly lower.

No 10+1 turbo on Stars, you go right from 6+.50 to 15+1 for the turbos. There's a 10+1 reg speed though

I was waiting for this to happen for SO LONG FFS. There is almost no hope that our busted government lets us go back to Stars. Ron Paul 2012 imo

so 6 to 20? Seems pretty obvious they'll be adding 10's as well then.

Yeah seems highly unlikely that it would be . Guess we'll have to wait and see.

i would guess the 16's remain the same but the 27's become 30's, or 32's, 60's become 65's or 70's, but who knows, a 10,20,30, 50 approach prob makes more sense i guess...

They'd be very foolish to change the buy-in from $15 imo. $15+0.50 would be nice.

I'd appreciate you not calling me someone else's name. I don't know who started this off but it's rather weird.

/Alex's trolling.

So if the $16's become $20's, the $27's become $30's, do the $38's become $40's? $40 then $60? Seems a bit odd.

The fact that penfold uses correct punctuation (or punctuation at all) and i don't have to read his sentences more than 5 times to understand them are a clear indication that he isn't ragz.

B2T:

Maybe they make weird numbers like 18.80+1.20 which would be slightly better than 15+1, but not by much (6.25% vs. 6%).

Re: Pokerstars making (substantial?) changes to SNG offerings in May?

The structure of turbo sngs is broken on stars... the best way to make money is either 16s or the 215$+, there is no decent jump because the rake is higher and higher as you go up... which is weird. I think they wont change the 16's because they're running so well. They have to ajust the other lvls to make the rake decrease as the lvl goes up. I guess, 33+2 and 56+4 or 57+3 and then going to 100+5 or something... Well at least I hope they are going to lower it down at higher lvls !

Agreed. If they do this I am starting a petition among US players to stop using the site. NO, but in all seriousness I will be mad too. Supers are so much fun.

"Does that mean the rake in every sng will go down? No it doesn't and in many cases the same sng just won't exist. We just have a lot of odd buy ins and you know if you used to play a 15 now you're playing a 10 or a 20 right."

Def a possibility, on pokerstars.fr it is 18.18+1.82 for example

ok i guess the buyins will be like on pokerstars.fr:
5,10,20,30,50,100,200
4.55+0.45, 9.09+0.91, 18.18+1.82, 27.27+2.73 and so on
so the sng rake will be a fixed percentage.

for every buyin-level there is for holdem: 6max turbo, 6max nonturbo, 9max turbo, 9max nonturbo, 50/50
and omaha: 6max nonturbo

rake should be lower on pokerstars.com though, as the french site is getting taxed heavily

Re: Pokerstars making (substantial?) changes to SNG offerings in May?

The $15+1s becoming $20+2s could only be a good thing, couldn't it? The player pool is probably going to be the same, so your hourly will go up to reflect your identical ROI in a higher buyin format. Maybe the rake increases a bit, but the $16s were always a weird dead spot for rake anyway, and probably in the long run the only reason some otherwise excellent players never moved up in stakes.

$20+2s would be a very bad thing for the $16 turbo grinders imo. If they were smart they would fix the rake on the $27/38s and give people more incentive to move up because they are very hard to beat at a reasonable clip if you can't get SNE (I'd guess its approx $0.20/game difference tops between $16s and $27s). Regs would be paying more rake/table so it would be a good thing for them.

agreed + if you make it 20+2 you are increasing rake which can never be good

Yeah if the .it and .fr rooms have a solid # after the rake, that's what we are going to be seeing. Similar rake % for the lower games and better rake at the higher games.

Re: Pokerstars making (substantial?) changes to SNG offerings in May?

Ugh, ignore my last post. Drink driving, and neglected tiny considerations such a math before passing comment.

I'm in no fit state to calculate this, but I'm curious about what point the guys who play the $60s+ will start to benefit from lower rake given that most of them are probably shooting for SNE. There has to be a point where paying an initially higher rake has to be beneficial to them purely to get the SNE level rakeback, as the lower the rake gets, the harder it will be to make SNE. Therefore, the rake would have to drop substantially in order for it to be worth the same amount to them. Even then, they now no longer would have the incentive to grind as much for the higher RB if it were simply factored into a lower rake.

Then again, I guess lots of peoples dreams for SNE have been reamed this year due to recent events in the US anyway, but given that these plans have no doubt been in place for a deal of time before Black Friday, I am curious as to how Stars would have chosen to balance these factors.
