I believe this is partially true. Everyone has extremely low ROI's especially above micro stakes.

Playing DoNs will make you good DoNs, and not much else.

you CAN still win them, but like mentioned above, the ROI's are increasingly small because the strategy for them is getting more and more known. In the beginning people played them like a normal stt and that was great, but as people realize the difference in ICM when 5 people make equal cash, the edge goes down. I still know someone who makes a decent winrate at the 20's, but this is 24+ tabling, and he could probably be making more playing legit STTs (with some further learning obviously.)

I completely disagree with your second statement. DoNs are a great way to learn about calculating changes in equity, ICM tax, bubble play, etc. If a player can't improve his play on other sngs by playing dons, then it's the player's fault, not the format's.

I have my filtered for something like 2-2, 2-3, 4-5, 5-7, 6-9.

Basic ICM question: How do I quantify the flaws in ICM to find the correct push/fold range?

For example: This hand is from a 180 man final table but I think you guys will provide a better reply than in the mttf.

payouts: 1st $108
2nd $72
3rd $44
4th $28

Poker Stars $2.00+$0.20 No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t2500/t5000 Blinds + t500 - 4 players
The Official 2+2 Hand Converter Powered By DeucesCracked.com

Hero (CO): t76176 M = 8.02
BTN: t94448 M = 9.94
SB: t29084 M = 3.06
BB: t70292 M = 7.40

Pre Flop: (t9500) Hero is CO with xx
Hero

I put this hand into sngwiz and it says for this to be a +$ev shove I need a top 5.4% hand and to be +Cev I need atc. My opponents are all somewhat competent and BTN is a solid reg. I'm lost as to how to figure out what range will show the most profit. Thanks in advance for clearing this up for me.

i have been on a horrendous downswing and just want some encouragement. its been 3500 games and still not winning. I have been reviewing sng wizard everyday almost. i have notes on what players will call fold push. i dont know what to do anymore. im gonna have jennifear watch me play as soon as she can. but looking at my hands mt ranges are getting more and more accurate everytime. i was a 7% roi over 15k games and now i am at 4% over 18.5k games.

could someone give me an example of a good player going on a similar or even worse downswing?

Try to play some microstake cash games to change things up and give yourself a break from SNG.

Sorry if I post this in the wrong section of the forum, also sorry if there's already a thread that answers my questions, have been looking but without success.

In basically all threads there's stuff like:

UTG: t2105 M = 28.07
UTG+1: t2810 M = 37.47

Also:

Villain seems pretty solid. 13/9 over 319 hands.

What does the bold parts stand for?

Thanks

This is answered in the part pertaining to poker tracker stats

UTG: t2105 M = 28.07
UTG+1: t2810 M = 37.47

This part refers to how many Big Blinds they have in their stack

Villain seems pretty solid. 13/9 over 319 hands.

This part is answered much better than I ever could in one of the stickies. Look for poker tracker statistics

M is a concept coined in the Harrington on hold em books. It expresses how many rounds you can play at the current blinds and antes before going broke. Its calculated by Stack_size / (Big_blind + small_blind + (ante*nr_of_players)). Its a MTT concept though... at STTF we usually just express how deep your stack is by just saying how many BBs you have. (that's easier, antes matter less in an STT and if they do they are more standardized)

Those are statistics on a player (usually from a pokertracker or holdem manager database/HUD). Those statistics are collected over a number of hands that we watched player play (more hands = better statistics) The first number is VPIP, the second is PFR, sometimes AF or 3Bet is added as third number.

VPIP = percentage of hands the player plays (Voluntarily Put money Into Pot).
PFR = percentage of hands the player raises preflop (PreFlop Raise)
AF = how aggressive a player is post flops as calculated by nr_of_bets/nr_of_calls (Aggresion Factor)
3Bet = percentage of hands the player reraises preflop.

I didnt see anything in this thread about a proper bankroll for hyper turbos. Generally speaking, at the $44 level and above (assuming you're at least breakeven) what would be an appropriate bankroll in terms of buy-ins?

Are there any guides to getting started in the 27- or 45-man SNGs? I'd like to work my way towards playing MTTs now and then but I'm not sure how to start or what adjustments to make. At what point in an MTT does ICM become a major factor in decision making, as opposed to simply going by chip EV? Any links would be hugely appreciated.

Not a big fan of DONS. Takes the competitiveness out of it for me. Nothing but a fold fest IMO.

Hey guys, I have two questions actually. I am wondering about the skill level it takes to beat 6max SNG's. I play 1/2 6m and HU and have been a winner at both games but have had trouble moving higher than 1/2nl. So I've been doing some thinking and loose figuring. What kind of time frame would you estimate it would take me to learn to beat 6m turbo SNG's with $30 buyins? $50? $100? Second question ties to the first. How accurate do you think the VIP calculator on pokerstars website is? Close at all or way off?

I've thought that if I've "peaked" at 1/2nl maybe I should look into learning SNG's so I can grind out at least a ton of bonus. Anyone think this is a good idea? Terrible idea?

Thanks for all your input.

As far as I know, the consensus is generally: if you're beating cash, stick to that.

I know little to nothing about anything 6-max related though, so take this FWIW.

cash and sngs are two totally different animals.

if you're beating 200nl, i wouldnt change.

The vip calculator on stars is way off, best to do your own calculations

Got a pokertracker question:
Just bought the micro edition and was wondering about all the hands you track, do you only see the stats on players current session or is that something you can change in config?

You'd think I'd have this figured out after 8k sngs played on ft, but somehow I dont. Whenever I load up a bunch of sngs, they pop up in random corners and are some different sizes. Do the windows just pop up looking the exact same way they did last time you played?

Is there a way I can make just one stack almost the full screen. Do i need to just manually do it and then leave it?

Thanks for the help.

1. Yes.
2. There are several ways of doing this. Are you using Table Ninja? If not, you could just set a bunch of play money tables up the way you want your regular tables, then save as a custom layout. Just select that layout when you start a session. Allsnap is pretty useful for lining up windows/tables.

Which one is the best now with the rake lowered, which is the best game people think?

I have had better success with the 9 mans then i have with the 6 mans and i am not quite sure why, it seems like i should play 6 mans tighter than i do 9 mans...and on the bubble a lot looser but im not sure...

any opinions?? better roi percentages at 6man than 9mans?

Hi, when your shortstack, for example: blinds 50/100 and got 1500 chips left, is it better to all in or fold? Or play has many hands has we can?
Thanks
