How about having a avatar-image or not? Im always happy to be on a table with many empty circles ... I often wondered if one of them could be a hight VIP player keeping under the radar, because I mostly assume that non-avatar players are newer players and tend to have a wider calling range regarding them ... this could be used either way ...

It is said that one should folds one pair hands if flop gets check raised. Does anyone here fold overpairs too? AA,KK,QQ?

Thank you anyone willing to share.

He suggests Full Tilt if you don't intend to become Supernova, but Poker Stars if you plan of playing a very high volume of games. I'm gonna start grinding very soon on PS, PM me if you are serious and want a "MSN poker buddy" lol.
Yeah I read that article, it was very good but doesn't answer my question - whether you're better off playing on a lighter traffic network and facing easier competition, or if there's still plenty of money to be had grinding sngs on FTP or PS.

It depends on villains, preflop action, the board texture, your hand strength, and more.

You should usually not be folding overpairs.

Post examples, please.

Statistics used in higher-level SnG play?

I'm just starting to incorporate fold BB to SB steal and I want to have a stat for attempt to steal when folded to in the SB but can't figure out a way to get that in PokerTracker.

You can create your own stats obv but I have no idea what I'm doing.

Just ignore all of this. Better yet turn avatar's off, helps computer performance. It might be a good idea to remove your avatar, but it's probably negligible.

I was railing this hyper-turbo and the following hand went on:
Poker Stars $420.00+$8.40 No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t100/t200 Blinds + t40 - 3 players - View hand 636529
The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

BTN: t430 M = 1.02
SB: t2290 M = 5.45
BB: t280 M = 0.67

Pre Flop: (t420)
BTN raises to t390 all in, SB calls t290, 1 fold

Flop: (t1100) 7 K 4 (2 players - 1 is all in)

Turn: (t1100) 9 (2 players - 1 is all in)

River: (t1100) 8 (2 players - 1 is all in)

Final Pot: t1100
BTN shows 3 Q (high card King)
SB shows 4 K (two pair, Kings and Fours)
SB wins t1100

Was that a really bad push by the BTN? I know it is a hyper-turbo but after the blind and antes the BB had 40 only chips left. Even if BTN folds, the SB will fold like 0% of the time right? The SnGwizard says otherwise but I don't see why would he fold given the odds he is getting (call 140 to win 460 or sth like that). If BTN pushes and the big stack folds, the BB will call with any two and he will hardly be a favorite with Q3. So why does he pushes when he can simply wait for the BB to hopefully bust into the big stack. The SnGwizard says that he should push Q3+ but it seems like a marginal spot and totally wrong to me to push there with Q3. Obviously these guys know more than me when they have the bankroll to play such stakes hyper-turbos but I fail to see the logic behind that push.
This is my first post so don't flame me much plz

Im about halfway through Colin Moshman's sng book and am stuck on one equation. I understand page 118-1120 where he talks about how we calculate our equity in the late stages of a sng. I am lost as to how to put this calculation to work when talking about pots.
On page 120 he talks about the equity of calling.
He says.
Equity of calling= (pr(you win the hand))(Equity after you win)
+(Pr(you lose the hand)(Equity after you lose)

So let's imagine the blinds are 100/200. I am in the BB with 78 with 2000 chips after posting. The sb limps and has 400 behind. I think this is a snap push by me anyway but I'm using these figures to keep the maths as straight forward as possible. I decide to peel off a flop And the flop comes 56A offsuit. The sb pushes and I have open ender. Lets assume I know he has an ace so I am two to win if I make the call.
I am at a loss as to how to enter these figures into the equation.
Is the equity after I lose decided in this case by dividing my total tournamnet equity by five? It costs me 400 to call and this is one fifth of my stack. So that's the equity I lose?
Do I express the pot as a percentage of my stack to figure out the equity I gain?
I think if someone could fill in the equation with numbers I've given that would send me on a long way to understanding.
Thanks for your time.

Hello.

I play the $1.20 STT at Stars, in sets of 5 stacked tables. I am sort of breaking even after a small sample, but I know I have the following leaks, at least I think these are the main flaws in my game:

1. I seldom play AK in early stages because when I used to play them with a normal 3x raise and I got two or three callers and the flop didn’t help then I was reluctant to make a continuation bet. I know this shows weakness, so I prefer folding than play the hand fishy –although folding might be fishy too- . If I am late and it comes folded to me I might raise the AK thu, but I kinda get lost postflop.

Also, I don’t feel comfortable just limping AK -in fact I don't limp too much, I am a 8.9/7.4/3.56 (nit??)- with such a powerful hand, so I normally fold it in early stages. Is this awfully wrong?

2. Whenever I play pairs like KK, QQ, JJ, TT, raising 3x from whatever position and get more than one caller and an ace flops, it’s very hard for me to make the c-bet. So I tend to just check. I know this flaw is very exploitable, but the reason of my attitude is that I think that many players like to see the flop with any ace and I hate to see my Kings, Queens or Jacks losing against an A2. So, instead sometimes I tend to open over betting those pairs, mainly when I open from early to middle position, which might be not completely correct because an overbet might be a signal of a weak player and/or a not so strong hand.

As you can see in these very common situations I have no confidence in my postflop game at the early stages of the tourneys, which I guess is very common in new players like me, is it?

I need to overcome what I think are flaws because I want to move up in levels on time. Yet, I think I am improving my shorthanded game.

I think this post does not deserve a thread, -might end here all the same- and that is why I am posting in the official beginners thread. I will very much appreciate any comments you would have on this.

At least I got it off my chest.

Hey im a noob player at the $1.20 9mans (at stars) too, i would be interested in seeing a winning players pokertracker (or hem) stats for the different blind levels at these sngs, just to get an idea of how my stats compare, eg, am i playing too loose early and too tight late, etc... if you dont feel comfortable posting up your stats i can post mine (if its ok to do in this thread) and see what you guys think.

Hey all should I move up to $10+1's (full tilt) if I have grinded $200 up to around $500? I just started grinding some 10+1's and the play is real nitty and I'm wondering if i should just stick to $5.50's and play more tables (play 6 now at a time) bc I feel like they are much easier to beat and no worrys with my bankroll.

A lot of people ask this and there's really no way of anyone but yourself answering. In general, if moving up gives you worries about your bankroll, then your bankroll is not high enough to move up.

I'd advise making sure your sample size is decent before considering moving up to make sure you're not just running well. I"d also mix in some games at the higher limit with my normal sessions and make sure I feel comfortable with the stakes/play. As Darnzy said, this is really a question only you can answer!

what is your sample size and adj roi?
Beginner/Basic Question Thread Quote
04-13-2010 , 12:23 PM
Yea I don't have a good sample size. I have kept stats up to 300 5.50 sngs and I know I can beat the game. I've had a stretch of running good but also had a bad stretch. I've played around 300 5.50's (which yes i know is a small sample size) and my roi has been around 6.729% through 300 games. 1-100 was an ROI of 2.27%, 101-200 -1.169% (I ran really horrible in this stretch but still found a way to almost break even), 201-300 19.45%. I feel like I'm going to move up to $10+1's but be ready to move down if i hit $350-400. My BR is at $530 now so I'll see how i do at the higher levels for a little bit. I just feel like I should move up bc I have 47 buyins right now and thats more than enough. I feel like playing 5.5's with 94 buyins is way too bankroll-nitty.
