Hey guys, super quick question and hoping to get help tips and advice on this hand I played during a freeroll, keep in mind I am a newer player

pokerschool freeroll
9handed blinds 40/80
sitting in bb
Qs4c
UTG raises to 160,
folds all the way around to sb
he calls, I call aswell.
flop comes 326s (pot is 480)
I bet 2/3 pot (319)
preflop folds, sb calls (pot is 1118)
turn comes Qd, sb thinks for awhile, jams all in (3421)
I think for quite a while, (I only had 731 behind)
my thought process was that I had outs for the flush draw and of course it was possible for him to have Ks/As given he flatted preflop
or even a set from limping a pocket pair
I end up calling, the turn comes and its 7d and he shows 8s9d

In reality, was this a really just a bad call I got lucky on? In which spots could I have played better and what should my thought process be throughout this hand?

I'd like to track my results in SNG's. Can anyone recommend a spreadsheet that includes graphs? Thank you.

Rili98 I'm a beginner as well but I'm pretty sure you just got lucky. Q4o is pretty much a trash hand and you shouldn't be calling. You will be out of position with a bad hand. What do you expect to flop? In SNGs you shouldn't get involved with bad hands when the blinds are low.

If you are interested in SNGs I suggest reading Collin Moshman's book on SNGs. It has helped me a lot.

Apparently there is also a fold button. I just learned this today.

Which ROI is achievable in $5 9p KO and $10 9p KO nowadays? Thanks guys!

What would a numeric answer to that question help you?
They're a beatable game type, if and to which extent u can beat them solely depends on your play no one here knows anything about.

The new reward program in PokerStars (Chests) is very bad, I'm starting to put volume into micro 6-max hypers and I think it's probably gonna hurt me in the long run.
What other sites are good for 6-max hypers?

Hi Team,

Just starting out and have a few bankroll questions.

Am a 'rec' player playing for fun, however wouldn't mind going on a cheap holiday somewhere and having my stay supplemented. I have enough to income to sponsor my habit if need be - I am also playing $1.50 at the moment on stars for info purposes.

1st up, what is an acceptable sample size of STT SNGs to determine if your ROI is an accurate representation at a given level?

2nd, What ROI is acceptable to warrant a shot at the next stakes? (I assume anything above rake?)

So my question is if number of buyin's is not an issue (at the micro/low stakes), and you are simply looking to grind out a profitable stat before moving up.

What should those stat's be?

Thanks heaps

1st depends on the kind of SNG you play. Ranging from thousands for normal SNGs to tens of thousands for Hyper/KO kinda games and even more for Spins/Jackpot. That is if you are talking accurate. You can get a general idea with less, also if you use a tracking tool like Pokertracker or HEM, you can use further stats to determine how good you are (like all-in ev aka did you run good or bad in all-ins), needing even less of a sample.

2nd ROI wouldnt be something I consider much. Being a winner is usually good.

Goal, Mindset, Roll, Confidence. If those line up, move up.

Thanks Ronny

Play normal 9p STT SNG, so I will aim for 1K tournaments with a positive ROI before moving up.

One of the biggest problems for me is discipline and getting bored of grinding, so I want to spend a bit of tuning that portion of the game. I assume this will then be a big enough sample size for a coach to plug leaks with.

Goal: To make $50/day.
Currently I four table, so I figure at 32 games/day and had an ROI of 20% I would need to play $15 games.

Mindset: Need to do the 1K over 3 months (working full time), to prove I am serious. I will then move to the next step, if profitable, or hire a coach depending on ROI.

Roll: Can always go back to the real world.

Confidence: I dare say that will depend on how my stats look after the next 3+ months. Winning at $15 does seem a little intimidating atm.

Good idea, no matter the sample, u could e.g. just analyse a whole session with him.

Not a good idea, set goals that u can completely achieve by own effort, not monetary ones that depend on short-term fluctuation.

This is far from a realistic ROI, u're just running very hot, check sharkscope e.g. for what regs achieve.

Thanks LS,

Yeah I was running hot! Now I am struggling to break even before the 16.3% rake...

Still sample size is very small...

But a coach/mentor or someone to sweat with would be very handy.

Why is 42s a push and not the others? I checked a nash heads up chart and according to it 42s is the worst hand of the 4 to do the pushing.

While the hand is heads-up at this point, it's not equivalent to a heads-up game. There are ICM considerations (since 2 positions pay) that will cause to BB to call all-in tighter than the Nash HU chart. Since BB calls tighter, SB can push a little wider. Apparently 42s does better than the other hands against whatever that tighter BB calling range is.

Uh so difficult to know all that. I have one other simple question I am wondering about. 6max turbo, three players left. BTN folds. SB and BB have 10bbs. Should SB push tighter the more bbs(over 10) BTN has? My feeling is BB should call looser if BTN has 100bbs compared to 10bb.

Attached is an ICMizer link that I took from SNG Coach. I'm struggling to figure out why I'm shoving any two cards here. I know everyone is tight because it is on the bubble, but wouldn't the 2.5 BB players be looser because of their short stacks. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm really trying to figure out this ICM stuff. SNG Coach has helped immensely but there are a few spots that always leave me puzzled.

Hi,

My question is about the state of Sngs besides Spins in 2018 in general? Which games are still running well, have traffic, are beatable and offer perspectives moving up?

Last time I checked Stars was pretty much the only place with traffic in most games and even there a huge traffic shift to the Spins took place. I mean why should someone still start playing Sngs in 2018 and which games would you recommend?

Hello I've been playing for a while and losing, can anyone help see where my mistakes are using pokertracker 4 stats? I tried doing it on my own and can't make much sense of it.

Thank you in advance.

Hello I am using ICMIZER and I am confused about nash. Let's say I'm playing a 9 man sng and only 5 players left. I saw a video that said "regardless of our opponents calling ranges we still profit if we shove nash ranges". But then the video said if my opponents are calling looser, I should shove tighter than nash.

Why do I shove tighter when I still make a profit shoving nash? Thanks and sorry if this has been asked before

Say we are HU and Nash gives both a 50% shove range and a 50% call range.

This means, if SB shoves 50% and BB calls 50% neither makes a profit. However if one deviates the other does.

Imagine BB actually is calling 0%. Obviously shoving 50% makes a profit, but shoving 100% does double the profit.

Now with other ranges this isnt as clear. If BB calls 100% the best strategy clearly isnt folding 100%.

But the general idea applies. If someone calls looser than Nash, you should be shoving tighter than Nash. And vice-verca if someone calls tighter than Nash, you should be shoving looser than Nash. Same goes for calling.

Of course, you can't make over $5K a month with non-HU non-spin SNGs alone any longer, except if you become an elite 6-18-man hyper reg (playing hyper satellites and/or mixing super-KOs and non-KOs).

When you're yet building a bankroll, though, microstake SNGs are still useful, especially if you're uncomfortable with spins.

Collin Moshman's recent recommendation (in a Pokerstrategy video available to all registered users) are 9-man turbos. While the rake has become disappointing there (12% on turbos and 15% on regular speed at the lowest stakes), I think there's still enough edge there to beat it - as $0.25 spins with 8% rake are beatable with a 10% ROI, the much slower $0.50 9-mans with the 12% rake must be beatable with double-digit ROIs as well.

I'll test them this week.

Also, of course, Stars isn't the only site to play STTs on - there are 888, Unibet, etc. But the main issue is that they hardly ever run at serious stakes any longer, so if you do want to earn a lot and aren't in a rush to earn money right now to pay your bills, then you can sacrifice short-term winnings to learn a poker format that has brighter longterm prospects due to higher variance - spins or MTTs.

If you go the MTT route, then you can start with Stars 45-180-man SNGs. Surprisingly, the rake is 8-10% on most of the microstake ones.

I have a few questions about SNGWiz. I bought it ages ago and was just poking around at the various ICM tools available now. I noticed there's 3 different versions -- the first and third install, but the second does not. Also, I contacted the developer to help retrieve my license key but no response.

Any clues as to what's up?

Hey gus, about the STT, why is Spin&Go so popular now?
I mean a lot of guys on my IM group chats playing and talking about it, which is not my favour game.
Because its more profitable? and why is that? More amateur players?
or lower rake?
Thanks in advance for you to share your market insight.

hello guys~
recently I play micro buyin SNG on stars, want to make it a serious hobby.
for below issues I am looking forward to your kind advice so I can imporve:
  1. How to improve my performance when multi-tabling?
I notice that I play much better when play less table at a time, i know that for long goal i just slowly improve my skill and add tables so I can do better, but for short goal could you guy give me some tips so i can improve faster on this particular issue?
  2. Review tips for H2N.
    below are my review routine:
1)marked those jam hands I have doubts and run them on ICMZIER
2)review those postflop hands WTSD or biggest wins/losses looking for a better play
Is there any more tips for review especially on H2N?
  3. Player note on PokerStars note feature & H2N
I used to make a lot of notes on both Pokerstars note feature and H2N, then I notice I have done too much and these help really little LOL. any tips about note? i mean what kinda note will be more helpful?
  4. HUD/POPUP advice
i notice that many good players don't have too many stats on their HUD, just VPIP / PRF / HANDS, and thats what i am having. any advice? like what else stats you think will be helpful.
  5. How to adjust from ICMIZER advice to low buyin SNG exploit.
for one side i acknowledge that ICMIZER advice is math correct especially on preflop jam/fold situation, but normally I will call less especially against tight player with 5+BB or jam less in front of those manic players. does my play make sense? any more tips?

Great thx in advance~
