Re: Improving my 15% ROI at SnGs

listen to some of the podcasts about tilt and variance. put more volume and focus on the bright side. if you keep getting it in ahead eventually you will make money period

It will even out, it always does. It just gets frustrating to get hit with a cold deck against weak opponents.
Yeah thatís why 15 percent ROI is great. A lot of pros would take that for MTTs too. Of course the goal is to hit 30-40 percent but with variance and tough competition, a lot of people would be happy with even a 0 percent ROI.

Re: Improving my 15% ROI at SnGs

Still stuck on the 9 man $3 SnG at Global. I am tempted to move up because I am rolled for it, but have a personal vendetta to beat that game. Down to 13% now.

Before this, I was playing $1 SnG. In November I wanted to finish in the top 10(based on Sharkscope) for the $1 6 man turbo and ended up 1st. I feel I usually play good to great in these games but it's getting to the point where I'm questioning whether I have some serious leak I am neglecting to notice or just running really bad. Maybe I should record a session and let others be critical of my actual play.

The one thing I have noticed with the $3 game, is usually half the table are nitty regs and it often plays like a hyper because we are often 7 handed+ with all of us(except maybe 1) with less than 10BB when it gets to the 75/150 level. Obviously I steal a lot when this happens. It just makes the luck factor so much more than it would be in a deep stack game.

Re: Improving my 15% ROI at SnGs

Just recorded 2 games on my cell phone. Lost both, there were a few spots I was not sure if I.made the best move. Funny how I brag about getting it in good most of the time, then I go record my self getting it in really bad 5 times. I'm still working with the program to cut the size down, I'm going to upload it at 2x speed so if my voice is on it, it will sound hilarious.

Re: Improving my 15% ROI at SnGs

Im just going to move up in stakes...without beating the 9 man $3 SnG. Im rolled for it, I just think I'm cursed in that one. My ROI is down to 12% thanks to running ice cold.

I know I have the skills. I finished 1st overall in the $1 turbo 6 man game for November before moving up to $3.

Whoever said I should concentrate on cash games was right, doing very well so far at 10NL. I'm also going to play more MTTs as well as the $6 SnG.

No use trying to play my way out of a cold spell. In bankrolled for the higher stake so I'm moving up. Im sure I will do well at the $6 stakes, and my bankroll shoukd grow even faster now.

Sorry, that you are going through a rough patch. The problem seems to be that you haven't played enough. Your current ROI might be pretty meaningless, but I can understand that you are checking your results and want to see some progression at the end of the day.

Some random tips which helped me deal with variance/swings/confidence:
- Try Cascading and auto-closing tables. You don't see the results of your shoves and if you bust the table is quietly closing in the background.
- Pay attention to rake, rakeback, bonuses and other promotions. Paying 12% Rake against decent competition, without rakeback or bonuses (PokerStars 1.50$ STT's) is much harder to beat than 8.50% Rake, softer competition, minimum of 20% rakeback plus Bonuses and Missions (ParyPoker 2$ STT's).
- Play on a good site. I don't know much about Global Poker, but I heard their rake is huge, the site is infested with bots and people are complaining about an unusual amount of bad beats (I would not read too much into that though ).
- Work on your game! If you are sure that you are making the right decisions and your downswing is purely luck than you should be able to handle it. The worst about a downswing is that you are beginning to question your game and your confidence drops. Working on your game and accordingly getting the confidence in one's game back is really important imo.
- Listen to some music while you play.
- Conservative bankroll management - losing 1% of your BR due to a bad beat won't affect you as much as losing 10% to a suckout.
- Invest some time/money into an ICM software and work with it. (You can start using the Nash Calculator from HRC to begin to get a feeling for shoving ranges before you invest into the full program). If you actually get it in ahead most of the time you are probably shoving/calling to tight. Double-check some spots to make sure that you are not having some unplugged leaks.

Best of Luck!
pretty much what I want to say and more and better.
about the sites, softer competition and rakeback, what's your advice for amauter player just for fun at low stack, is Pokerstars a good site?

Since I live in Florida, Global is one of few options and has the most players. Carbon used to be ok but their player pool seems like it's drying up. I suppose Bovada is a decent option, after that I dont of any other sites.

Dont question. Its know that every poker player, even the very best have leaks. Keep on working on your game, no matter your winrate.

Re: Improving my 15% ROI at SnGs

I stepped up my stakes because I'm bankrolled for it, but now in the red. Hopefully this a just a short term adjustment....but it is discouraging after being up after 500 games, to give it all back after 50 more. However, if I can manage to run good, my profits should jump.

SnGs are such a grind though. I have learned that cash games are much more profitable.

Still haven't done well in a MTT either. I have a bunch of min cashes. Definately overdue for a win.

That said, I'm spending most of my time at cash games and tournaments.

Thanks!

Generally speaking Pokerstars is a trustworthy site with the best software. The competition is considered to be tougher than on other sites and their "bonus"program is pretty lackluster from what I heard. Rake starts to matter only if you play decent volume so for an amateur it is not superimportant. I personally would stick to one of the bigger sites (PartyPoker and 888Poker) as they offer some quite nice deposit bonus, tourney tickets and a player pool which might be a little softer than on Stars (this might actually not be true anymore as PP's SNG promotions have brought many regulars). It's hard to give a general answer but I would make sure that you have a trustworthy site with a working software as loosing all your money due to a scam or some buggy software is the worst imo

Re: Improving my 15% ROI at SnGs

Do you use tracker software while playing?
See how is allin EV and NET WON like in BB.

There may be some problem like the damage of losing 100 BB when AA get cracked by KK in preflop allin will be much lower than losing 20 times AK vs AQ having 5-7BB, but this may show you how exactly is the overall rundown.

Check the ICM and ITM also, if available.
No offend, but I have a strong feeling that you may play against them since you only talk about reflop equity.

Besides, 15% is really not bad. If you can keep it up to $200 SNG, you can for sure make a fortune out of it.
Though those games are not so available now. LOL
