Hi all,

Came across an interesting spot earlier which busted me on the bubble.

Blinds 125/250

Me (CO):Shoves AKo - 1270
Bu: Folds - 1930
Sb: Folds - 540
BB: Calls JJ - 4170

Now I'd been playing conservatively but I think as I was on the bubble I should have just let the Sb with 2bb get eliminated, right? He was INCREDIBLY passive and had folded 95% since becoming <10bb.

ICM-wise, I thought pushing AK was good here as I wasn't expecting a call other than from Sb with something worse or any pair. I did lose the hand and bust. Just wondering, would everyone else have played here or folded? As I said, I think I should've let it go unless it had been KK or AA for an almost-certain victory. I'm not just saying that because I lost, I think the Sb was playing exceptionally badly and I could have just outlasted him by waiting, right?

BB was bullying obviously and would have covered him with looser calls which he'd been making so far.

I don't play with the objective of min-cashing. I want to win. And to fold AKo four handed seems like a terrible idea. I'm definitely shoving here. Unlucky we ran it in to the big stack with JJ.

Yeah, it's a DON tournament and on the bubble with the player behind gave me an interesting decision to make. Thanks for the thought, Chips.

Oh that changes a lot if it is a DON. Not saying it is a correct decision even if it wasn't, but if it is a DON why would you want to double up to 2700 if you're already so likely to outlast the 2bb player?

In a double or nothing structure this is not a good play, maybe in a 9-max with top 3 getting distinct %'s.

Yeah exactly, I know that DON games are about survival which made me think along these lines. My only concern with this however is that I've been in plenty of spots where the shallow player catches a break and doubles up to near my size or sometimes larger.

HRC in FGS3 gives the following equities
CO 26.19%
BU 29.90%
SB 11.12%
BB 32.80%

So in other words SB is going to cash a third of the time.

It suggests the following ranges:
CO 20.5%, 44+ A2s+ A4o+ KTs+ KQo QTs+ JTs
called by
BU 0.5%, AA
SB 20.3%, 22+ A2s+ A7o+ K9s+ KJo+ QTs+ J9s+ T9s
BB 5.4%, 99+ AJs+ AQo+

It depends.Partypoker DoN tourneys have same prize for all people who cash.
Pokerstars DoN tourneys have different prizes depending on chips that you have at the end.

Cheers man, appreciate the input, helps to narrow down my range a bit more. Can I just ask, what does HRC stand for? I don't use much software other than ICMizer, Equilab and FoldEC.

Thanks again.

HRC = Holdem Resources Calculator - it is quite similar to ICMizer I think.
