I've been using it for about 6 months now and even though I can't say for sure it makes any difference; I feel totally blinded if I try and turn it off now suggesting it is doing good!

I didnt care for that program but have found that tinted reading glasses provide similar help for me.

You playing the stars hypers at all? From what i remember of your game on FT the buyins are prob a little low for your tastes.

Take care of your eyes.......Youngsters prolly don't realise the damage they may be doing...

Gunnars, f.lux, very low brightness, eye drops....... If I try playing without one of those it feels like my eyes are burning.

Why would low brightness help? I always thought that reading things under dim lighting causes eye strain.

See below kobe I cannot recommend it enough. Looks strange at 1st, but it feels so much better

Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow?

Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen?

During the day, computer screens look good—they're designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn't be looking at the sun.
f.lux

F.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.

It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.

It also helps fix your sleep schedule a little. I used to play until very late and the bright light from your screen makes your brain think its still daytime so when you then go to bed relatively soon after you played you won't be able to sleep very well.

Yeah, just came back from 7 month holiday since FT was out. When i came back stars added the $100 hypers, perfect timing. I'm playing those and the sattelites. Been out for quite a while so my game isn't where i want it to be and playing both formats is quite tough since they are so different but i'll make it work somehow haha.
I really hope stars adds higher buy ins. I want to get supernova elite within 7 months of playing and higher buy ins would help quite a bit with that.

EDIT: Also try to work out if you're a "play sick amount today, take 2 days off..." or "play X amount each day, slow and steady..." type player early on and plan from there.
I love to listen to music while i play, but i feel sometimes i get in a mode where i just react and dont think.Ive stopped listening to music and had much better results, anyone else experiance this?

Yeah. I have a circadian rhythm disorder which works a bit like this. My bodyclock insists that it's living in Seattle, which would be fine if the rest of my body didn't live in the UK. Hence playing poker for a living, now that I'm too old to cope with the permanent sleep deprivation of 9-5.

Bright light, including computer screens, will reduce the melatonin build-up you need to get to sleep at the right time. Avoiding too much light late at night is good, but you can also help by making sure you get good light exposure first thing in the morning. You can buy light boxes and light visors for this, but for most normal people, just a good dose of morning sun should help keep their sleep on track even if they're pushing it a bit late at night sometimes.

Having a bright screen and room should help when playing if it makes ur body think its daytime and u wont get tired so easily?

Isn't this exactly what the OP is trying to avoid? I mean, when I'm grinding a long session, the last thing I want is to feel sleepy. I WANT to feel like it's during the day so I'm more alert.

Anyway thanks for the explanations guys, I'll give that program a go just to see what the fuss is about, but I have no idea how it's supposed to make you grind longer sessions.

Peeing before you start your session is probably #1 on my list.

Incremental improvements as sipping criss said is definitely key. You'll find a lot of guys who can mass table, but you'll actually find a lot less who can grind hard for long. They're basically two different skill sets, like sprinting or long-distance. Both need to be trained well to reach/maintain peak performance. That's why when you take a long break away it takes some time to get back into the swing of things. However, similar to muscle memory it comes back quicker than before you'd done the training.

I can see the advantage and logic in the argument about less sessions for longer. When I grinded at 3M VPP pace, this was pretty much what I had to do. I'd say though the single biggest reason why that was the case is because if I took a bunch of breaks, I wouldn't be able to force myself to grind as hard as I did, since there was so much inner resistance against what I was doing. It's a bit like getting down to study or do some house work - really a pain in the ass to make yourself do it in the first place, but once you've started it's much easier to get it done. So I was tapping into this idea.

The reason why I wouldn't advocate that approach is pretty much from a health and lifestyle standpoint. Unless the game type you grind makes it essential for you to grind at long single stretches, it simply is not worth it one bit in my opinion. It's worth researching these things yourself rather than just taking my word for it, but the damage that will be done to your lower back, your eyes, your fitness, your diet and your mental well being simply does not justify getting an extra couple hours grinding in. Ultimately, say you got up at 8am each day, between 9am-6pm you have 9 hours available. That allows 1 hour to get ready and enjoy your breakfast, maybe have a walk outside in some fresh air for a bit, grab a coffee, or to do a cardio workout. You'll easily get enough hours in, especially if you don't take all weekends off/grind a lot on Sundays.

A final point regarding this is that you cannot compare the hours your putting in on grinding online poker to a 9-5 40 hour-a-week job. Two reasons: the job specification is so much different, an employer would get shut down for making you grind so long at single sittings doing this in front of a computer, it's a recipe for disaster in the long-run. That's why legislation forces them to give you breaks usually three times in a day, sometimes twice. Secondly, 40 hour-a-week job is usually constrained within 9-5 Mon-Fri hours, whereas grinding online poker is not. Therefore, you can be more liberal in your grinding plan given your greater flexibility in this job.

Overall, and this relates most closely to the gym analogy, intensity is way more important than duration. In fact, if you are training at correct intensity, the point of diminishing rate of returns of the sesh is not very far in at all. I've recently completely changed my training programme where I now train at very high intensity for anything from 5 minutes to 25 minutes, not including 15-20 minutes of warm-up/stretching/yoga. If you are training for cardiovascular, some important research has shown where high intensity for lower duration can also beat long training in terms of cardiovascular improvement as well as strength gains. It isn't as black and white as this though, otherwise marathon runners would just do the same thing. That's another topic though.

f.lux and Gunnar ftw

gunnars? well, for sure its better to go to your local optic and get 'normal glasses with double anit-reflex' maybe youll get small correction as well.
And i think if you dont get some fancy frames, it would be cheaper as well

They zoom in a bit also so I sold them quite fast since I did not like the zoom part at all.. And at the time there was no room for me to push my monitor further back the desk either.

Yeah, I found the Gunnars a bit weird because of the zoom: your monitors start to look slightly concave because of it.

I did perceiver with them, but eventually came to the conclusion they weren't helping really.
