In Bovada SNGs, I have lost the last three times I've had aces, the last time I had kings, and the last time I had queens. Each hand has been played a little differently, and certainly there's a good deal of variance involved (twice with aces I lost to a low one-gapper flopping a straight, and the queens got it in pre vs 65 which flopped two pair), but it still leaves me wondering what the "GTO" way to play these hands is, especially in early position. I mainly play $5 double ups (6-handed) and $3 triple ups (9-handed). So I'll go through a couple hands, and I'd appreciate it if y'all would let me know what you think.

So the first time, I totally failed. The table (8-handed) had been fairly aggro the entire tourney, so when I picked up aces UTG, I... limped. I like back-shoving, but it's a gamble, and this time it didn't work. BTN flatted, BB checked. ****. The flop came 87Tr, BB checked, I bet, BTN called, BB folded. Turn is an undercard, I bet, he calls. River is another undercard. We don't get more than 3 to a straight, it's totally rainbowed, I don't really expect two pair but I'm a little afraid of a set and I don't have much more than a bluff-catcher here so I check, he bets, I call and lose. I didn't lose the minimum, but I didn't lose the max either. But I did let 96o in preflop, which may be a winning play in the long run, but my reverse implied odds have to be terrible since I'm never going to see that coming.

Another time, I minraise UTG, folds back to the BB and he defends. Flop comes 246, he checks, I check back, yada yada, we end up getting it all in for some stupid reason and he has 35s for the flopped straight. Again, how did I let 35s in preflop, and is that something I should want to happen for the price (2BB)? I'm guessing not, since the only way I'm getting anything post flop is if it comes A35 or something.

I won't mention the queens since I got it in preflop against 65 and he happened to flop two pair, that just frustrated me to the point of making the post since I shouldn't be losing with the best hands this often. So, how do you play premiums in early position? Does raising 3x or 4x, especially later in these turbos, give off too much strength? Should I just be content with picking up blinds most of the time, hoping to catch someone light a quarter of the time or so?

It seems that you are slow playing your good hands too much. Try raising pre, aiming to get a single opponent postflop with as big a pot as possible.

Obviously stack sizes and position should affect my decision, but what's a standard raise? 3x? It just seems like I'm always getting 3 callers or no callers.

I think your bet sizing, as you said, is situational. And Ronny has re-iterated this for your games.

If you observe that you are getting 2+ callers when you R 3x PF regularly you can probably make your betsize a little bigger to 1) get in more value and 2) limit your callers to 1. If you find that the table it tighter and playing smaller maybe 2.5x.

You sound like you are on the downside of variance with your premium hands. Don't let it get to you and turn into a bad beat story.

Again to re-iterate what Ronny said:
* Raise more for PF
* Raise enough to try to limit it to one caller postflop

Its easier said than done but sounds like you are missing value with your hands. You can probably eliminate some fancy play by trying to back raise early on, etc.
