I play low stakes and sometimes I see people calling when i'm the BB and I just check because my hand is not so good. What then happens on the flop is that I don't have a read on the opponent range, and when I go to showdown sometimes I see the most random stuff.
My point is that when an opponent raises I can put him on a range witch which he would do that. (I'm not very experienced, and the way I do this is by adapting my range on that position to the type of player I think the opponent is, I'm not sure is that's the right way to do it.) But when he just calls I usually have no idea.
For example this hand:
PokerStars - 15/30 Ante 4 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 4 players
CO: 57.77 BB (VPIP: 50.00, PFR: 10.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 10)
BTN: 158.37 BB (VPIP: 50.00, PFR: 30.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 10)
SB: 43.9 BB (VPIP: 6.25, PFR: 6.25, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 16)
Hero (BB): 39.97 BB
4 players post ante of 0.13 BB, SB posts SB 0.5 BB,
Hero posts BB 1 BB
Pre Flop: (pot: 2.03 BB) Hero has J
6
CO calls 1 BB,
fold,
fold,
Hero checks
Flop: (3.03 BB, 2 players) 8
9
T
Hero checks,
CO bets 3.03 BB,
Hero calls 3.03 BB
Turn: (9.1 BB, 2 players) A
Hero checks,
CO bets 4.57 BB,
fold
I called the flop because I fell like I have a lot of equity but I'm not sure what the villain has. Because of that and because it's early in the tournament I decided to fold the turn but I still have no idea of what his hand was.
