Bad beat or bad play? Bad beat or bad play?

hey there

Question on hand from earlier this evening.

No limit tourney. Post break. Blinds at $200-$400.

I am SB with A6s with five callers, no raisers, ahead of me. I call vs raise.

So question is - is this a raise situation? Early position. Medium strength hand

Rest of hand:

Flop is 6-6-7.

I bet $1.2k. Fold. Fold. Raise to $3.8k. Fold. Fold.

I re-raise. Player goes all-in and I call. He has me covered.

He shows 8-9. Gets 5 on turn to hit the straight.

Better had been playing fairly loose early when blinds were small. But had tightened up. I am not sure if i could have pushed him to fold pre-flop.

So - did i play this incorrectly or was it more a bad beat?

Thx in advance.

played fine. you're being results oriented. if he doesn't hit the straight on the turn/river, you wouldn't have posted this hand.

In regards to your question, being oop for the entire hand I prefer calling preflop.

Preflop is good. Just to clarify you're not in early position. It's always good to know stacks here, I'd shove pre a lot if I had 15BB or less. Seems like you were deeper so calling is good.

On the flop your hand is not vulnerable and you can easily pile in chips on turn and river so I would start with a check and give other guys a chance to goof off.

What's your question when he goes all in? Do you think he has 76 or 77 only? Think about all the hands you beat. As a rule when theres only a couple hands that can beat you and you beat a million hands, get it in and be happy about it!
