So, I just took my 18yo to the airport. She's going to France and gets back mid-December. It will be the longest ever without seeing her. She'll be coming back a 19yo. When I started posting here she was a little over 5.

She didn't go to Mexico or Puerto Rico. Her friend went to Puerto Rico and had a minor hospital visit because she touched a purple sea urchin that apparently you shouldn't touch. She did work enough here this summer to pay for her ticket and we'll see how far the rest of the money gets her in France. And she's mostly doing work programs in France. The nicest one is a few hours a day watching someone's kid and my daughter and her friend (not same friend) get their own apartment to stay in in Paris.

My oldest moved to Vermont about 8 years ago. I've seen roughly every other year. It's strange.

There's a short poker column in the LA Times and today's was written be Jonathan Little.

Was it about running bad and quoting Irieguy? Because he posted a snippet on Facebook.

I know fieryjustice (Jonathan Little) writes books but I think he did videos at one point (no idea if he did any on sngs though)

I miss those guys (among many I miss). The sttf gatherings (official and otherwise) were some of my best times in life.
Let's bring back the gatherings during the WSOP!

That would be awesome...but I'm not sure how many still show up for WSOP. I'm sure you would know better than I would. Last time I was at anything WSOP related was Dave's final table.

3 years of SNGs for a living probably took 5 years off my life. I have the exact wrong temperament.

I have a theory that people who were abused as kids make good poker players, because they learn to compartmentalize pain. Small sample size so far, just me having not being abused and sucking at tilt management. But the science feels right.

I was also not abused. Poker pain is only painful because you think it is supposed to be painful. Just because something unnecessarily causes pain to most people does not mean it has to cause you pain.

Guess it all depends on perspective. 3 years of waiting tables in a busy West LA diner probably aged me more than 8 years playing online professionally. I don't have great tilt control but having to answer to bosses or, god forbid, deal with the public and occasionally eat **** is worse than anything I've experienced in online poker. Getting to earn like an American without having to live there is also pretty sweet atm.

Not abused but I am a rare type that is somewhat in a zenlike state when playing a reasonable number of tables so maybe some sort of ADHD or OCD or something.

I loved waiting tables for the most part. There's something primally satisfying to me about feeding people and watching them go away happy.

There was absolutely nothing satisfying about taking people's money at poker except the freedom and the rush of a heater - which seemed to get harder and harder to come by, while the bad runs hurt worse every time.

Having hung out with many of the top online players back in the day I think ADD or ADHD is a common trait (mine is ADD), to the point of being just short of autistic in some cases.

Its also why it's so hard to switch to live play. It's SO slow.

Wasn't abused, had a very happy childhood. Couldn't imagine doing anything else and def live poker > normal job to me. Basically +1 to everything Ruse said

Only way it might be taking years off of me is the lack of movement I get during the day while grinding. As Ruse and I have discussed almost any normal job has some amount of movement involved, whereas we sit here and grind 8+ hours straight without taking any sync breaks...not good on the ole body

I'm 27 now, been grinding online for a living for 9+ years, and having some slight health problems. Still young enough to make changes though and salvage the situation heh

Congrats devin and hope everyone in STTF is doing well!
