Lacky, you can probably relate....my 18yo is home from college and it's not exactly like the song below, but she def wants her space and to come and go without so much as a "so, where ya going?" And she's taking off next semester to do a work abroad thing in France.

You know, it's cool and all, but still

Micro,

I actually moved my daughter (and her then boyfriend, now husband) into the travel trailer in my driveway when they were home during the summers. It gets weirder buddy. You have lots to look forward to.

Way back when Irieguy made a hand history with ZeeJustin, Curtains, Raptor and other folks doing hand commentary as they played. I am bad at the 2p2 search. Anyone know where I can find it?

Since I have a hard time not replying, and know this thread would die if I let it....I have no idea. I don't even remember it. I either never knew about it (wtf?), or I have completely forgotten about it (WTF!).

Getting old kinda sucks (lots better than the alternative though)

I have been on a total bike kick lately. My daughter and her husband moved back to Boise, have been getting into riding road bicycles, so of course I had to fix up the old 1989 centurian le mans. That led to searching craigslist regularly, which lead to my buying the wife a 10yo novara strada ($120), and the 14yo Cassidy a 8yo giant avail ($150). The only one left out was my 13yo Megan. Her autism is such that she has pretty much zero road sense (I worry about her WALKING around cars) so I never taught her to ride a bike. Wifey decided we should try her on a tandem, so back to craigslist and we bought a really crappy one for fairly cheap ($150) expecting to sell it when she didn't like/wouldn't try it. She loved it! I had no desire to ride a crappy bike sooo.... now we own a nice 1993 gt quatrafoil tandem ($300). I also bought myself a cannondale caad8 because...well, it was there, not that expensive ($250), and the nicest bike I've ever owned.

Wifey and Cassidy decided they liked mountain bikes better, so back to craigslist, wifey now has a 1996 trek 930 that literally was ridden 3 or 4 times the stored indoors for the rest of the time ($140). Cassidy has a 3 yo giant ($200) that is ok component wise but she loved (it is pretty) and I bought myself a 1996 trek 970 because...well, why not, it was nearly new shape for $120.

Cassidy can't ride more than a few miles and gets anxious (muscle and anxiety problems, again due to autism). Pretty much kills the chance of bike tours, so we tried her on the tandem and now I'm tandem shopping again. I'm trying to get the price down to $300ish from $500 on a 1993 trek t100 right now.

The beauty of craigslist is all the bikes were near or over $1000 new. It isn't hard finding nearly unused bikes at 10-20% of new price.

I now have a house full of bikes, some of which I need to sell back on craigslist. I'm trying to work up to commuting to work 15 miles each way, and get set up for a family bike tour of yellowstone. Both are proving harder than it was 20+ years ago. **** is harder at 51 that at 20 something. I decided I liked my old centurion fine, fits my better than the caad8 so sold that to the son in law. I'm currently stripping the components off my old Bridgestone mb4 and converting the centurion into a triple chaining.

It's very possible I've lost my mind, but it has been fun.

The story would have been better with pictures, but I'm lazy and don't know how to host and add them anymore.

There...your turn for christ sake. You guys must have SOMETHING going on to talk about, some story to tell!

Dunno when we'll find the time, but my 18yo daughter wants to take a bike trip with me. She'd have to get over freaking out about peeing behind a bush or going a day without a shower. I saw something once about a bike path/route I think in Ohio that is a few hundred miles or something, goes through a bunch of nice little towns and is hardly ever next to traffic.

I have one bike trip under my belt (21 days down the west Coast Hwy 1) and would like to do more at some point. I'm 50, but I'm definitely still up for it.

I have an old Motobecane. I don't know the model. Iirc I got it for $225 used in about 1990. I'd consider a recumbent. The thing I would dread about a long trip now is the seat.

I have an expensive recumbent trike I bought during poker days that I figured would take the pressure off my hands. It was fun, but I ended up liking regular bikes better. The extra weight and not being able to stand up made hills a slog. I'll probably give it another try at some point, but not sure I'll ever get to where I like it more, make it my main bike. There is also the problem true of all expensive bikes. You end up worrying lots more about it being stolen. One thing I like about old bikes is even really good ones are still old, lots less likely to be stolen and hurts less if it was.

I'd recommend picking up a used recumbent reasonably cheap and trying it out before spending a ton assuming you will love it like I did.

What you are thinking of is a rail trail, can't remember it's name.

The International Selkirk Loop Bike Tour in northern Idaho and BC looks amazing.

You might be thinking of this one:

Great Allegheny Passage

Location: Cumberland, Maryland, to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Length: 150 miles

Why it’s great: When you connect the crushed limestone Allegheny Passage with the 184.5-mile C&O Canal Towpath in Cumberland, you can ride all the way from Pittsburgh to DC without having to worry about busy streets or traffic. It’s the perfect place to try your first week-long bike tour.

I'm poor, cheap and easy to please. You don't have to warn me not to buy an expensive bike.

The last time I took a modest trip on my motorcycle (Death Valley last Thanksgiving - about 4 hrs away) I got a hemorrhoidal flare up. If that happens on a bike ride, I'm quitting. That sucks. Maybe I am too old.

Lol, overshare, but yeah, at that point it wouldn't be fun anymore.

I have an oddly high number of recumbent bikes on craigslist right now (for Boise anyway), including a trek r200 for $150. If you see anything up here you want looked over just let me know. As long as you pay the purchase and shipping I don't mind doing the leg work for you.

I haven't touched a bike in years. The last time I rode one was when I foolishly entered a triathlon when I was a young army officer.

I didn't actually own a bike, but the Regimental Sergeant Major lent me his mountain bike with a casual comment that the chain might come off occasionally.

I finished the swim in second place and leaped enthusiastically onto my bike - looked a bit of an ass since everyone else had cool lightweight racing bikes, but what the hell.

Hell was indeed what followed. That bloody chain came off about every 2km in a 50km bike ride. I managed the best time for the 10km run, but was an entire hour slower than everyone else for the bike ride--not a great memory. I came in absolute last

All the best to the old gang,

Peru

So, anyway, apropos of nothing, here's a picture of some kanafeh my 16yo daughter made. It's a cheese dessert, which is only about half as weird as it sounds. If you look it up you'll find it referred to as Arabic, but we first discovered it as Kurdish. We did that by going to supposedly the only Kurdish restaurant west of the Mississippi because we were interested in Rojava, the anarcho-feminist wonderland in Northern Syria.

He was arguing with Mason and said something like he can't wait until 2p2 disappears completely.
